2021/22 Frank Lampard

This made me smile mate.

You're not wrong.

But for me, him being pragmatic is doing the opposite of what you want.

We're in a relegation scrap. He's asking a squad devoid of confidence to play/press like Man City/Liverpool - "enjoy the ball"

Easier said than done.

Pragmatic first, that's playing deep, being hard to beat and hoping for a break/set piece goal to get us a point or a miraculous win away from home.

Work on the bigger picture in the summer.

The first goal yesterday that destroyed everything was from a corner. You cant get any deeper than a corner.
Once again it was players switching off.

Lampard came with a great team, we were told. Paul Clement his one of his team and has been highly praised for his football nous.

I was going to make suggestions, but I'm nowhere near qualified. Here I go, anyway.

It's clear that we can't keep doing the same thing, and one thing we have learned is that Richo isn't a number nine.

I'd put Calvert Lewin there for the rest of the season if he stays fit with Richo playing near him and put the ball into the box as often as possible.

The defence needs to be sorted out, which isn't easy with what we've got, but there must be a way to make it better than it is.

Isn't that what coaches are for?

DCL hasn't been fit at all since Lampard has come in.
Who do you suggest up top in his absence if not Richy?

I am on the fence so far with Frank. Still an inexperienced manager and it is showing.

We have not got the players to take control of a game. We should have sat back yesterday with that line up and tried to hit them on the break. Yes it is easy to say in hindsight as we started the game well but once we are 1 down its game over.

On Thursday v Newcastle we never looked liked scoring and the formation baffled me completely.

I dont beleive it is totally down to the players. Chelsea Draw - Spurs Draw - Arsenal Win - City home unlucky.

In a very poor season they are still capable of putting in a performance.

Let's not forget these players have played under 3 managers in 1 year with 3 different ways of playing.

It is now upto Frank to stick with a formation and style at home and one for away games if we are going to see any improvement.

I think Frank certainly has to take some criticism for the way the team has been set up at times. It is hard for him to come into a team which has had its confidence shot to pieces though.

I do think he needs to think about a 4-5-1 with Dele or VDB behind the striker and see if that works.

It annoys me that we don’t leave anyone up when defending a corner, we should leave someone like Gray on the halfway line, he doesn’t really mark anyone in the box anyway, he just stands there. so it would make sense with his pace it just gives them something to think about. At times against palace, they left no one back at corners.

I've never understood "everyone in the box" on a corner. You put your fastest player near the halfway line to give you an out. And sometimes, like with Mirallas, a goal.

He speaks very well and says all the right things. But tactically he's been a little worrying, plenty of questionable decisions so far and defensively we're as bad as I can ever remember - away record is utterly appalling (16 goals conceded in our last 5 away games).

Mate, whatever the issues with Lampard this shower of wasters have completely failed the passionate supporters, the tradition of this great Club, and seven managers.

The fault lies completely with the players.

Even when I was playing under 10, I knew that once I crossed the white line I had to perform....no hiding place. Get stuck in.

As for GAA football, it was absolute passion from the first ball that came my way.

We didn't try to hide a loss by blaming the coach.

The most logical thing I have read on this thread all day.
The Lampard supporters wont like you for saying this.
There were 6 players who started that game out of position today.
Coleman, Godfrey, Holgate, Kenny, Gordon & Richarlison.
But guess what, its all the players fault, nothing to do with Frank
These weren't and Kenny has played LWB before without issue
Though I prefer Richy playing off the left he has played up front a lot and has for Brazil too
It is all the players fault... Between Townsend getting injured and us falling apart the only thing Frank did was replace Townsend with Gray
So from being dominant to being submissive is down to them
Today is the starkest example of it and imo the players deserve all the criticism they get

Drastic situations call for drastic measures. No Everton manager in the last few years have forcefully said what he said. Yes, the professionalism has been questioned at times by one or two along the way, but this is different.

I dont see it as deflection. Deflection is when a manager (as he has on previous occasions in the short while he's been here) state that matters were the same before they arrived. He's gone further than that here. He's questioned their courage not their professional credentials.

It's a gamble, maybe. Maybe it's a battle that wasn't for now. But he's with these players and in a better position to judge how they'll react. He wants effort in back to back matches. That's not something he should be being slated for by fans, that's something we should all be 100% behind.

lol

"Once again"

That's 1 goal mate.

We've conceded 9 in the last 2 away games.

1 goal was from a set piece. Whoop de doo.

Perfect example of this;

He's not the problem.

We all know this squad lack the mentality.

But he's contributing to the problem.

He's setting us up to fail - particularly away at home.

He's making us more vulnerable, and he's right;
  • “There is only so much you can keep trying to butter someone up to get confidence,
Confidence comes from results and performances - being battered in every away game he's been here for removes whatever he says.

He's making the same mistakes, and he's not being held to account because;

1. Apathy/anger towards players.
2. "We can't keep sacking managers!"

Away from home, he has to be pragmatic. He has to recognise this team's defence is atrocious and this team is vulnerable.

He has to preserve whatever little confidence we have in a relegation fight. If you can't win, don't lose. If you lose, don't lose 5-0, 4-0...

To set us up to press so high up the pitch, with our defence and a midfield which can't tackle is absolute insanity. If he didn't learn that from Southampton or Newcastle, I hoped Spurs would have rammed it home.

Evidently based on Palace, it hasn't.

This isn't after the event cry arsing either - I've been crying it in for ages now.

If he sets us up again like that at Burnley and we lose, I'll lose faith in him.

If fans think we can setup away from home, as we have in every away game under Lampard - then I'm afraid you're wrong.

I mean... ffs;

I do agree that he has been deflecting - I’ve heard more than enough of him saying “that’s from before I came.”

But equally, I don’t think that means he shouldn’t call the players out if it’s his assessment that it needs to be done.

I suppose we’ll see if it works, won’t we? Ultimately, that’s all that I care about - that we improve.

Nobody has said he shouldn't call the players out.

What I'm suggesting he should do, as I have for some time now, is stop pointing the fingers and making excuses. Basically, this;

I'm also concerned with how he's gone into self preservation mode.

Comments like this are coming in;

"“It has been a long time the players haven’t won games, it is impossible to change that overnight"

“Myself and the staff came in with the team on a bad run… used to the feeling of losing and not getting points"

It's like he's shirking. Too evasive. Too deflective. Basically shrugging.

It wasnt a once again at you. Dont be so precious.
Yeah like thats the only goal Everton players switch off from.
Its excuse after excuse after excuse. We played deep under benitez and were crap.
Truth is im stumped. You say lampard shouldnt tell them to go and enjoy playing. To me thats just another method(number 145) of trying to get something from them. Getting into their head.

Play high
Play deep
Play happy
Play miserable

No expert here with the answers. Other than this lot are just not good enough.

I've never said he hasn't made mistakes but I find it ludicrous that people are blaming him for the losses.

These players are the least everton players I've ever seen. If they play well and try hard one game, you can be almost certain they won't be arsed the following week. They don't take responsibility, they don't think they have to work hard, they don't fear losing, and they don't care enough.

People seem more annoyed that they were called out publicly than the fact they gave up again. If ever a squad did not deserve to be defended publicly, it's this excuse of an Everton team. I will never identify with them, and I won't be happy until about 80% of them are gone.
is anybody actually doing that mate? Not trying to be a tit, I've just not seen anyone say it is all.

I agree with everything you say I just think we need to see more in-game from Lampard too.

I think the players care they're just crap. Really, really crap and fragile. They're a disgrace.

He needs to get the Chelsea kit man in.

He's getting pelters in that comment section. Atleast he's offering a joke. Say half them would die of embarrassment if they where put on the spot to tell a joke.
