Like our new 'Jewel on the Mersey' it's work in progress but I sincerely believe Lampard is now building a squad good enough to hold its own against any in the Premiership. He's having to learn the hard way but it's coming along and I agree he has to be given this season to prove his way is the way forward.

Who's not behind Lampard ?

I've already said he gets the season for me.

I just don't worship him like he's won us a league title. He's not even got us into the top half spots once and some of you are begging for a reach around off him its embarassing man lol

I'm not bothered if you love him or not but your online actions as an Evertonian reflect badly on me and other Blues when opposition fans buzz off us like they used to do the Geordies ?‍♂️
This is a strange crusade you’ve set yourself on.

Lampard has given us a bit of hope, he’s united the players and fans.

I don’t see anyone getting more carried away than that.

I never said we’d fully replaced him but to act like a lack of his contribution this season will send us down is bonkers. Making up 10 goals and some assists isn’t very difficult.
Especially so when 30% of his goals where pens and I think 40% of his assists where deflected shots bouncing in off someone.

There's some weird rewriting of history that Richy was prolific - he wasn't and that he was creative - he was far away from that also.

What he actually was was a very hardworking good defensive presser from the front who provides a respectable goal/assist total for his position.

Good player no doubt but in no way irreplaceable

Young Manager with whats looking like a young squad. Average age yesterday was around 24/25, theres so much potential to grow in both the management and the squad and im genuinely looking forward to it.

No starting player over 30 yesterday.

Oldest two players are the CBs - a position where you have usually a few years more at before decline sets in.

Only other player older is Gueye - who is a metronome and who we've already brought in longer term options and depth in this position.

Great recruitment all round

A very clear cultural change within the squad, the culture of hard work and maintaining standards, this is the most significant issue to resolve before the talks of tactics and formation. It’s the foundation of every competitive team.

Lampard did a great job addressing this, convincing the squads to embrace such mindset and signings players that echos his believe.

Non of our previous managers tackle this issue successfully.

I think Moyes did tbf, but he also weirdly bought too much into the plucky little Everton thing too much which badly undermined belief away from home v good sides.

Don't think Lampard is making that mistake

The signings are of significant character. Onana, Coady and Tarkowski are leaders. Gana Gueye, we know what he's all about. Maupay, a run all day and never give up attitude. Not sure on Vinagre or McNeil yet. But the type of characters we've signed isn't a mistake.

I think we're in for a very rough ride before we can be sure that things are going to get significantly better under this manager, but he has definitely given himself a chance.

Like in an under-14s five-a-side team, the one player effectivey guaranteed his place is the goalkeeper. And our goalkeeper yesterday referred to now having "characters" in the side. That spoke volumes. Its still early days, but a comment like that is telling and comes from somewhere more considered and deeply-felt. That team yesterday did not feature any of Holgate, Mina, Keane, Godfrey, Coleman, Gomes, Allan, Doucoure, or DCL.

Some of those players - but not many - have done enough to prove that they have or had value to Everton in the past. But quite a few of them - including some previous fan favourites - have been exposed already by their replacements and the impact they seem to have on their goalkeeper. Speaking as a former lowly amateur keeper, I suspect Pickford is really talking about those closest to him: the defence and possibly those entrusted to protect the defence. However you slice and dice it, it's damning. Some players who recently got injured may not have too many appearances left in Everton shirts as, if we get any run of the green with injuries, they simply will not be missed.

I mean, if dom is fit, he could get 15/16 (as he has proven before)

Maupay scored 8, 8 and 10 in the last 3 seasons.
Richie scored 10, 7, and 13.

That's only 4 goals difference. Richie had 11 assists in that time, maupay 7.

Maupay also showed yesterday, that he will work as hard as Richie did.

So your assumption they won't score enough goals, or we havent replaced Richies number aren't based on fact.

It wasn't an assumption. Maupay is no Richi, anyone disputing that needs to take up another sport. You have to take in the hidden figures where his skill and hard work led to goals

I'm hopeful that Lampard's ego will be the difference here. Lampard has a sense of confidence in himself that comes from playing at the level he did. Basically, he fancies himself. Brand Moyes was always based on more humble attributes, sheer hard work, fastidious dedication, and a desire to make something of himself. Lampard has already made something of himself. He thinks he's worth it. This is a good thing if he surrounds himself with expert coaches and can have his vision funded from on-high. I think he has both of those ingredients, so he has a real chance in those big games. He sees that as his stage - the big games against the big teams and coaches. Whether he has the basics to back up all of this is the question, but he has no inferiority complex and it's about time we shook ours off too.

For all his, might be, faults he seems to be a hard worker as well

Was reading something the other day on Howard and how the 80s side came together.

It got me weirdly wondering just how much a student of the game Lampard is, he's often said about the type of footy we as fans want to see and which we get behind the most - as being more important than what he personally prefers wants to play even.

Got me wondering if he studied the sides of the 80s a little.

The way he's targeting players with that attitude, work ethic, bringing in young hungry players mixed with older model pros - it's very reminiscent for me of what Howard (himself a young manager pretty much unproven but with a great career as a midfielder behind him) did all the way back then.
