So, F1 is here again. Two weeks since Lewis Hamiltons' remarkable double North-American wins. Now the circus come to Magny-Cours in central France.
Bernie Ecclestone confirmed at the end of May, that the circuit at Magny-Cours is hosting it's final F1 Grand Prix, as it is considered a boring circuit, with little opportunity for overtaking.
Magny-Cours holds two places in F1 history, most notably, being that, in 2006, Michael Schumacher made it the first Grand Prix to be one 8 times at the same event by any one driver, his victories in 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006. In 2004, Schumacher was able to claim victory using an unprecedented 4 stop pit strategy, due to the final corner and chicane being modified to increase overtaking opportunities (which failed) producing the shorter pit-lane which allowed for much quicker pit-stops.
Qualifying
After Lewis Hamilton dominated he practice sessions with short, fast stints, he came out early in Q3 and set the quickest time, while his teammate, Fernando Alonso had gearbox issues and retired from the final Q3 session, leaving himself in 10th place on the starting line. Raikkonen, who had been on the pace all weekend ended up 2 tenths off of eventual pole setter (which may be an indicator of fuel load), Felipe Massa, who relegated Hamilton to P2 by a mere tenth of a second.
The Honda's of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button (my name appears on Jenson's car, on the left side pod, right above the air intake) start in 12th and 13th, Jenson just in front of Rubens, still after their first points of what has been a disappointing season.
Nico Rosberg starts in a credible 9th, with his teammate Alexander Wurz showing just why you need to be strong in Q1, starting in 18th.
The Super Aguri's of Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson both appeared closely matched as they set the 19th and 20th fastest times, although due to a penalty carry-over from the USGP, Sato starts dead last in 22nd. The Spyker Ferrari team, led by Christian Albers were way off the pace of their rivals and start from 20th and Adrian Sutil in 21st.
*Don't mind me, I am practicing writing reports out for the next season of footy!!!*
