no mention of the fact that it hit their players hand before the deflection though.
Rafael's Views On Cup Exit
Rafael Benitez was left to rue a missed opportunity as Liverpool bowed out of the FA Cup following a last minute Everton winner on Wednesday. Rafael seems to be suggesting that he was not happy with the red card, as playing for so long with 10-men made the difference, as he explained to Liverpoolfc.tv:
'I am really disappointed to have gone out of the FA Cup. To play for a long time with 10 players and then to concede a goal right at the end from a deflection, we have to be disappointed.
'The turning point of the game was the sending-off but I prefer not to say anything about that.
'You can lose players which is part of the game but when you play with 10 players and they are working as hard as they did tonight it was really bad luck at the end.'
I'm not sure that Rafael is in any position to bemoan a sending off, and what this cost the side down to 10-men, we are fresh from that against Chelsea on Sunday and have benefited from this several times this season and I don't think that we can have many arguments with Lucas' red card can we? The first booking was harsh, but having picked this up the second was needless on the half way line.
The Spaniard's disappointment couldn't be hidden but the Reds will now use that old adage that we will concentrate on the Premier League and the Champions League. Of course, as well as having Stevie Gerrard go off with a hamstring injury, which could keep him out for a while, Rafael also revealed that Fernando Torres is struggling for match fitness but will keep playing on, going on to add:
'We now have to concentrate on the Premier League and the Champions League so there is still a lot to play for.
'They are two massive competitions and we are in a very good position.
'Torres was really tired and that's why I took him off. He needs to keep playing games and keep training because his match fitness is not the best but that will come.'
It pains me to say, but congratulations to the Blues, they won on the night and they deserved to do so as they always looked the side more likely to do so.
