Everton produced a brilliant performance against 2nd place Chelsea in the last game of this fabulous Premiership season.

Everton who had more or less secured a UEFA cup spot controlled the first half with some nice passing moves and brilliant defensive work.

Everton’s biggest chance of the half was a free header for Joey Yobo (who has played every minute of Everton’s season) which he headed wide.

Chelsea looked nervous against the Blues who were brilliantly backed by their fans throughout the game, with Everton taking the game to the Chelsea side and was always up in their faces, especially young James Vaughan on England captain and first choice centre back John Terry.

Chelsea’s only notable chance was a 25 yard shot by young midfielder John Obi Mikel, which Tim Howard tipped over the bar.

Half Time – Chelsea 0 – 0 Everton

The second half brightened up considerably and it was Everton who took the lead, brilliant player by the boys in blue with Mikel Arteta doing superbly, like he has done all season, playing the ball to Leon Osman, who slid the ball to young James Vaughan, who slotted home his 4th goal of the season with a great finish under Petr Cech, which sparked mad celebrations from the travelling support and great celebrations from the players, the celebrations showed their brilliant team spirit in the camp.

Controversy was to follow though as Chelsea grabbed a undeserved equaliser, Mikel Arteta was running down the wing when a wild challenge from a Chelsea player looked to have caught Mikel, referee Halsey said that the Chelsea player was adjudged to have got the ball and Didier Drogba put the ball in the net when everyone was screaming free kick at the ref after Wright-Phillips put the ball in the box.

These sparked massive protests from players and manager Davey Moyes who went onto the pitch to protest at the goal, with his hands on his head in utter disbelief at the ref, Davey was then sent to the stands by the ref for his protests.

Everton still took the game to Chelsea, who still looked second best even after the goal and a James Vaughan overhead kick after good work by Arteta was well saved by Cech.

Controversy soon followed again when James Mcfadden put the ball in the back of the net for the Toffee’s after Cech palmed out Lee Carsley’s effort on goal, but the linesman pulled up for offside when clearly no one was offside, again the crowd and players and Moyesy were in disbelief, which defiantly ruined a 5th place finish for the blues.

Although Everton were robbed of the 3 points which would of grabbed a 5th place finish, it was still a brilliant performance by players and the travelling toffee fans, a 6th place finish is what Everton had to settle for and a richly deserved 5th place.

WE’RE ALL GOING ON A EUROPEAN TOUR!
