Do we have any other keen anglers on here?

There must be loads.

I'm a piking freak myself.

Nothing better than getting up in the middle of the night and setting up the tackle in the pitch black, with freezing fingers, waiting for the water to thaw.

Ok, doesn't sound too great but it is, honest.

I'm getting on the banks of the Calder tomorrow hoping to get me a big old croc.

I tried spear fishing for the first time the other week. It was like a sandstorm i couldn't see a thing. I managed to spear a piece of coral.

I cant think of nothing more boring than sitting in the freezing cold for hours waiting for a fish daft enough to bite the bait, then reel it in only to throw it back in the water and wait again for another few hours before the same fish comes along whilst you still sit there freezing your toes off. Sorry mate.

Amazing how many people say that they can't think of anything more boring.

If you break anything down to the basic level it sounds crap.

Golf: Just hitting a ball with a stick into a hole!
Football: Just 22 men kicking a ball into a net!
Darts: Just throwing giant needles into a board!

To be honest though, I can't understand how people can be bored sat outside in the beautiful countryside, surrounded by nature. Music on if you like. Flask of tea (or your drink of choice), a few butties. Peace and quiet.

Just remembered it's the close season on the river :@ Have to go on the cut.

Never been much of an outdoorsman myself.

(Edit: I know, shocker me being from Texas and all but there are some of us who are city slickers)

have some rods in the shed and a pole. nothin flash like, although one is a salmon rod i got in nz. always had a telescopic in my backpack when travelling.
i'll get out and do some when little b.o.g. shows an interest, cant be arsed with the canal though, a lake or a river, or the sea. i've always fancied a go at fly fishing tbh.
fished all the way up the coast in oz, everywhere we stopped we fished, did some night fishing in a little 'arl boat with an outboard and a gas lamp, but came back in after pulling some small sharks out that were trying to bite us in the boat, 1 of the lads said " i hope i dont hook their mum in this thing" *pause approx. 2 secs rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriddididididiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiingggg started 1st time.

I like a bit sea fishing myself, also partial to a bit of coarse fishing too, but never got into piking or carping!

Some people will tell me its boring and they can't get into it, yet I find watching cricket to be far worse than they make out fishing to be.

But to those nonbelievers fishing is the biggest participation sport in the uk with figures of above 3 million so I'm informed.

By rights it should be our national sport!

That's exactly the way I look at fishing mate.:lol::lol:
Tried it a few times when I was about 11 or 12, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
