Gardener's Question Time

summerisle

The rain, it raineth every day
I don't know how many green fingered hobbyists there are out there regarding gardening. I know absolutely zilch, and that's putting a positive spin on my knowledge.

I have a Japanese ornamental quince bush, which seems to be growing an inch a day. I pruned (hacked) it a couple of years ago, and last year got a miserly crop of quinces. Should I prune it again this year ?

I want to grow some rosemary and thyme, seeds or ready made plants ?

If the plant is the same as the one I had then it is supposed to be pruned in late winter or early spring, before it comes into growth. In the past I have grown both rosemary and thyme from seeds but nowadays buy them from nurseries in 3" pots to grow on.

Don't prune it water well & feed once per week hoe some bone meal around the surface roots too - it's been a dry spring so far too the quince will only flower on new growth- do not prune it again....
Only prune cross branches in the middle of the bush when you get growth feed with a tomato feed to promote fruit as its a high potash feed atm it needs a high nitrogen feed once soaked at the root well!
