Various Ministers , M.P's and hangers-on suddenly pushing for a knighthood for the hirstute one . In an age where we can't keep 3 thousand fukn Gurkhas , and Pensioners are tret like shabs , we decide to Knight a ( good , but not great ) footballer . If this was the late 60'-70's , itd be Besty , not Giggs who was Top Of The Pops .

Lollypop ladies, cleaners, and voluntary workers to name just a few occupations regularly recieve these gongs. Ps - i agree with you- the treatment of the Gurkhas is a disgrace.

I thought this was an ironic thread because Giggs got the PFA award for **** all.

If it's serious then that's indeed worrying. Top top player but I thought the Knighting was for more substantial things, hence why the World cup winners were never Knighted. (then again if Chris Hoy can be then Giggs should be signed up tomorrow)

Knighthood’s have become a joke and are frequently awarded to film, pop & sport stars along with the TV media. The majority of these people make a ton of money; don’t see why we need to be honour them. They are so easily dished out these days that they’ve become a diluted honour (1953 Sir Winston Churchill....2008 Michael Parkinson)

My mate . Tell me of one lollipop lady whom was Knighted ( Or became a Dame , as she is a lady . ) ? This is a well rewarded footballer , whom cannot be called a great on anything but a domestic scale . Its a goddamned knighthood for chrissakes .
Its nothing to do with the player award , though if hes been the best player in the past 12 months , they mustn't have seen Jags , or the baby-sitter for that matter .
Its typical post-modernist bollox . Like the Best Album Ever , gets 14 out of 20 being post 1997 .
Like Liverpool FC , their history begins the week before last .
Zeitgeist , unfortunately .

He deserves a knighthood more than St Stevie G La deserved whatever _BE he got, but no, he doesn't deserve a knighthood, despite his achievements on the field, professionalism off it & loyalty at a time when it's extremely rare for a player to stick at 1 club for so long. He deserves recognition but not a knighthood

How a player can get player of the year for 12 starts is beyond me. I sense a little bit on sentimentality in him getting the award. And as for a knighthood... I think there are alot more deserving people that Giggs somehow
