Hi all. My parents live in Anfield and I’m taking them for lunch soon. I’m looking for a decent food pub not in the city centre. They are are getting on and I’d to drive into the car park, to minimise walking.

I don’t mind driving to other areas, it’s just my dad can’t walk through the city anymore. It will be a weekday.

Thank you.

Allerton Golf course used to do nice food. Not far from there the pub in the park is nice if the weather's good. Just pub food but cheap and good value for what you get. May be full of kids in the school hols though.

Very close to city centre but technically not in it, the Marina Yacht club is good and they have ample parking; on a nice day the setting is superb.

Depends how far you want to drive mate.

The Wheatsheaf - Raby on the Wirral, is fantastic - thatched roof, superb food, lovely countryside, car park at the door and a real mix of clientele - horse riders, cyclists, walkers and people just there to have a drink and something to eat. ( 40 mins drive )

The Ship Inn - Lathom, does fantastic food and is on the banks of the Leeds Liverpool Canal - car park at the back of the pub ( 40 mins drive )

The Scotch Piper - Lydiate is a bit nearer - lovely old building, thatched roof, car park outside, decent pub grub and a favourite with classic car heads.

A bit further away - The Leigh Arms - Acton Bridge, good pub food, lovely building and beer garden, on the banks of the Weaver Canal, car park next to the pub.

The Travellers Rest outside Frodsham is also very good if you’re going further afield. The Fishpool Inn is great but bloody expensive.

There`s loads out that way - the Pear Tree / Acton Bridge, the Hatchmere / Delamere / the Goshawk / Mouldsworth / the Pheasant / Tattenhall.

The three I mentioned are all pretty straightforward to get to, as some of the Chesire ones, take a bit of navigating.

Think it’s the same owners as the Hop Vine in burscough which is also brilliant
