Gordon Lee RIP

This is very sad news, Gordon Lee built a fine Everton team that was so unlucky not to win a trophy. RIP Gordon Lee.

Sad news. Gave me my first trip to Wembley in 77. Was a very nearly man. But if Bryan Hamiltons goal had been given against you know who. Then who knows what might have been.

Him and Brigham sitting between Catterick and Kendall it was always easy to pigeonhole their era as one of Everton failure, especially when you consider what was going on across the park at the same time.

But what would we give to have had a couple of title challenges and the sort of football played under those two at any point in the last 20 years now?

Sad news but a great age.

Saw him a few years ago walking along the street up in Lytham St. Anne's where I believe he had retired to. He smiled and nodded his head.

Incidentally St Annes is also where Harry Catterick's grave is.

He was our manager when that shower had their best team ever.

He was cheated out of being an FA Cup winning manager by Clive Thomas, and he was a top class goalie away from winning the league.

Gordon Lee was the best out of our non trophy winning managers imo.

Kind of defined the seventies. A very good team although Gordon was a touch conservative. Robbed by a bent ref, then and our own fault Carlisle did the double over us. Was he a trophy winning manager?? I don't think that was in his locker. Dobson, Thomas, Latchford it was a diamond trio that. He got to a good age though did Gordon.
