The last time a living US Democrat President passed the presidential reins over to another Democrat candidate, was way back in 1857 (Franklin Pierce to James Buchanan).
The next elected President (1861) was Republican, Abraham Lincoln...

This is a good one. I hadn’t thought of this before. The Democrats held the Presidency for 20 years (FDR/Truman) but FDR died in office during his 4th term.
Also, having Pierce and Buchanan serve consecutively was brutal. Generally, they are considered two of the worst presidents (Buchanan is generally regarded as the worst).
