2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Were we better off without rooneys goals because I remember the same argument when people were using his goals to excuse what a detrimental effect he had on our team
And six of Rooney’s were penalties. He actually managed to be a bigger millstone around our neck than Sigurdsson. I can at least cut Siggy a little bit of slack because he did play Walcott through eleventy billion times last year and played some cutting passes.

Having said that, both are/were detrimental to the team overall. Siggy at least had redeeming qualities. Rooney almost killed us.

Nah agreed, decent and very promising (can that even be said about a 30 year old?!) at times, with a rocket of a shot, but inconsistent and also frustrating in failing simple things often, or not having the balls to do what is needed.

Since he joined us we have been on a roller coaster as a side. The season he joined us, Koeman was sacked after 9 games and BFS decided we were going to bore our way to safety.

No coincidence that last season with a bit more of an attacking minded manager he got 14 goals overall. This season the side have started badly and he has been bad as part of that.

He's not the sort of player who can take control of a game, apart from Gomes we haven't had a midfielder with that type of ability for a long time anyway. But he can pop up with the odd bolt of a goal as you say so can produce moments of class, just not enough of them for our fans who clearly expected that off him due to his fee.

Mate he was , he was missing sitters, ballooning crosses when he had heaps of time and space, shooting when he could have played people in .... he was terrible

Walcott was carrying an ankle injury for a large part of last season, and this could well have effected his game. He is definitely 'a proper footballer'...Not many were any good in the Season of Sam but he was better than most.

Delph and Gmabin. Gmabin is new to the league and out until Jan so cant see him being a regular starter until the end of this season. Delph is injured every other week. Davies is still inconsistent as he is still learning. Watford will not sell Docoure in Jan. We are not currently blessed in midfield despite the squad numbers.
I don’t won’t doucoure, I was just making a point.
To be honest, surely if he was going to play there it would have been Saturday. Only 2 fit midfielders. And Gomes was just returning from injury and Davies has hardly played.

I’m not a big fan of siggurdsson, you’re which is fine it’s about opinions, I’ve always thought he’s to slow and effects the way we we attack, the most passes between a number 10 and a number 9 this season was on Saturday by iwobi he also played 18 passes in the final 3rd siggurdsson has only done better than that in 4 games of his 68. Iwobi Made 3 dribbles, siggurdsson has only bettered that once. Iwobi also played in Walcott 9 times.

Siggurdsson Is probably better technically and a better finisher. But Iwobi has proved that he will drive forward, commit defenders, run past the forward into the box. Which just opens the game up for the rest of the attackers. Obviously his forward passing is better to. So for the sake of 4 or 5 goals, Iwobi in the 10 role is a better fit.

The link up play between all of the midfielders was better with Iwobi than almost every game with Gylfi in that role. I just can't see a justification for switching that. What you've said in the second paragraph is the whole argument really. We aren't getting anywhere near that with Sigurdsson.

So and ankle injury was making home miss 1 on 1’s from 6 yards out? Making him choose to cross as rush it when he had time, then when delivering the cross over hit it or scuff it? As much as I would like a Walcott like the one we had against westham I have no doubts whatsoever that he will revert back to his normal ways, this has been his problem for his whole career. He is capable of putting in really good performances like the last one and that shows you his potential or talent, but he doesn’t know how to produce it regularly or even one in 5 games.

Fair enough, what you say is quite reasonable, but its possible that Walcott was affected mentally, worried about his ankle. It wouldn't be the first time a player has lost some of his zip with an ongoing injury....the slightest knock seems to effect Gomes game for example. It will be interesting to see how WAlcott performs in the next few games, and whether having someone other than Coleman behind him effects his game. If he does have his mojo back, its a big plus for us.

Mate ... a Walcott like the other day is a very good option to have and if that was his level 7-8 games out of 10 he would be a very good prem player indeed. I hope what your saying is correct and he performs like that regularly but his whole career has been a case of not delivering consistently

I think Walcott is a player who has always had dips and peaks in his career, there are lots of players like that.
The secret is that when he hits a trough that he is taken out of the team... something Marco Silva seems to struggle with generally.

I know most don't agree but he is our most important player.
