Been lurking here for a bit, but here goes.
Where about are you from?:
- as the thread title suggests, I'm from Canada. More specifically, a small city north of Toronto.
How did you find these forums?:
- I googled "everton forums" and this place seemed to be more active than some others that were listed.
How did you become an Evertonian?:
- I am a very new Evertonian. Last season was my first as a Blue and also first actively watching football of any kind. I have been a life long Toronto Maple Leafs fan. I generally refer to myself as "bleeding blue and white" for my team. I was also (I'm embarrassed to admit) one of those people who said that "soccer is for fairies, wussies, little girls etc". This latter bit started to change around the time I started University, but I didn't start actively watching until the NHL had its second labour stoppage in 7 years including losing an entire season in 2004/05. Faced with having nothing to follow for another full season, I decided to pick up watching football.
I chose Everton completely at random actually. The most recent game that I had access to was away at Swansea. So the way I chose between the teams became pure colour preference, and I think the love for my Leafs played a part. I was also determined not to pick Manchester United, as literally everyone I've ever talked to who is from here and states they watch the premier league list ManU as their club. Bleh.
Now having said that I chose at random, the more I watch and the more I learn about Everton, the more I am convinced that I somehow picked the perfect team for me. One of the things I love about being a Leafs fan, is the massive amounts of history and legend that surround them, and I feel Everton are very similar in that regard. Plus, the seasons marked by flashes of hope around the midpoint, only to have the team trip on themselves when it matters are very familiar to me. After all, my Leafs do enjoy the longest championship drought of any NHL team (46 years and counting). So I've become a Blue and I'm happy with that decision. I'd love to stay if you'll have me!
Your all-time favourite Everton player?:
- Well since I've only got a season and a half worth of games under my belt, I will have to say Ross Barkley. Despite only really emerging this season, his enthusiasm, work rate, and tenacity are all the things a Canadian Hockey fan can really get behind .
Your current favourite player?:
- You know its Ross.
Pineapple on Pizza, Is it socially acceptable? What are your views?:
- Pineapple on Pizza is a crime. There is no other way to put it. The only acceptable things on pizza are meat and meat products. Oh and you are allowed to dip your pizza. Renee's Mighty Ceasar dressing is the preferred dip in my household.
