Because there is no reason they should add up.

The left column adds up to 50 - because you add them all up to count how much you've spent. How much you've got left each time is completely independent of each other.
Consider the following and it should become apparent quickly...
Spend Left over
£1 £49
£1 £48
£1 £47
£47 £0
£50 £144

Now - the right-hand column isn't anywhere near to £50, and there is no reason it should be.
