Now maybe Wenger is also being a bit of a dick here, but hes got every right to, hes actually done something in his management career, Hughes just comes across as a total tit.

BBC Sport - Football - Mark Hughes disappointed by Arsene Wenger's behaviour

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has accused Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger of "not knowing how to behave" after their Carling Cup quarter-final.

City beat a youthful Gunners side 3-0 at Eastlands and Wenger did not shake hands with Hughes at the final whistle.

"Maybe he's used to winning games and when he does lose sometimes he doesn't know how to behave," said Hughes.

But Wenger replied: "I think I have nothing to say. I am free to shake hands with whom I want after the game."

The two managers were at loggerheads on the touchline during the game, with the Arsenal boss complaining to the fourth official that Hughes had left his technical area.

"At one point I was over on his side of the technical area and he seemed to be a bit aggrieved by that," added Hughes.

"But I think he is probably more aggrieved because he got beaten. I have been to the Emirates Stadium and been beaten 6-2 but I still offered my hand at the end. It is the least you can do.

"I am a little bit disappointed in that respect. You should be a bit more gracious than that because it is unnecessary. We all hurt when we get beaten, but you should always offer your hand."

When it was suggested to Wenger in the post-match news conference that a handshake was 'professional courtesy', the 60-year-old replied sarcastically: "I have no professional courtesy."

But the Frenchman said he would continue to use the Carling Cup to blood the club's youngsters, even though they have not won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup.

"I do not consider that if you win the Carling Cup you will be going on a trophy parade," said Wenger. "It is a competition for our younger players. If I don't play them here, where would I play them?

"We played in the quarter-final of the Champions League last season against top teams. Playing in those matches is 10 times harder than playing in the Carling Cup."

I think Hughes has it right to be honest.
Wenger has refused to shake hands many times in the past, and it's not very sporting or professional.

I dont think Wenger cares.

Both of them are right I think. If Arsene doesn't want to shake his hand, give a ****, he doesn't shake it. He has always been a dick about this kind of thing, if he doesn't want to be mates with everyone then that's up to him.

Meanwhile as much as I dislike Mark Hughes's attitude, he is doing the right thing. If he wants to be manager of Man City then he's gonna have to act like a big man and be arrogant, he doesn't have the long list of trophies that most 'nice guy' managers can use to make themselves look good. Can you imagine if he came out and said he was still settling into the job and learning from managers like Wenger? He'd be gone straight away.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he does not regret not shaking hands with Manchester City boss Mark Hughes after the Gunners' Carling Cup defeat.

Hughes accused Wenger of "not knowing how to behave" following City's 3-0 victory over Arsenal on Wednesday.

But Wenger said: "On Saturday, I am managing my 500th game at Arsenal and I believe I have shaken hands 497 times.

"It is a ceremonial courtesy but the most important is not the ceremonial but the courtesy of behaviour."

Wenger is now preparing his side for Saturday's home game with Stoke and he insists that he has nothing to apologise for.

"I don't deny that I am a bad loser but on this occasion I would have done exactly the same if we had won or lost the game," he added.

"I act in accordance with the principles I think are important on the football pitch and I maintain exactly what I said and did."

When asked if he had been insulted by Hughes, Wenger responded: "I'm used to treating this kind of thing with the needed distance. I do not want to make a fuss.

"There are incidents on the touchline but you never heard me ever say anything about another manager after the game, in a press conference or after during the week.

"I maintain exactly the way I behave and do not regret one second of what I did."

For his part, Hughes is keen to move on from the controversy.

"We keep revisiting things that have already occurred," he said. "Everybody has had their say on what happened.

"I have my view, as I tried to articulate after the game. I am sure Arsene has his view on it as well. But that is between myself and Arsene, not anybody else.

"It is not something I am not looking to dwell on. It is past, why revisit it? We are grown men, we just get on with it. From my point of view the issue is over."

you just knew that both Manchester Clubs would be drawn together rather than a possible meeting in the final, I knew it before it happened, ok, 50/50 chance, but it could not have been anything else.

Blackburn to win outright with a andre Ooijer hat-trick against City in the final.

As for Hughes himself, I sometimes have to remind myself that he did actually turn out for Everton, even if only for a season or so, think it was one or two goals in his time here, one against Watford in a 4-2 home victory, I remember that.

They're both scum buckets only diffence is that Hughes is still a learner

It is not simply a question of the hand shake. It was the snide comments from Hughes after the game that I condemn. Hughes did the same to David Moyes in the "L" saga when Moyes criticised him about his behaviour and Hughes reply. To the effect he had done nothing and their chase for "L" was not over.

That is the point. Hughes has a veru poisonous tongue.
