Yeah, the whole point of the rule is that he can't play against his own team but if they're no longer in the competition then obviously he can't have any impact against them.

Yeah, the whole point of the rule is that he can't play against his own team but if they're no longer in the competition then obviously he can't have any impact against them.

You can only play for 1 club in ANY cup competition, it's always been the rule and has nothing to do with him being on loan. A player could get knocked out playing for someone and then be in the final for someone else if it wasn't for the rule. Un-used subs don't get cup-tied, like Stuart McCall was able to switch from England to Scotland as he was an un-used sub, he went to warm up behind the goal and stayed there because he didn't want to get put on for England.
