... Combined with a good account of ourselves at Wembley, would you regard this season as a good one?

Given the circumstances (the start, fellaini/rodwell/gosling needing time to adjust and injuries...), I would be happy.

Considering the injuries then I think we can be content, especially with Gosling and Rodwell coming through to the first team squad. It would be really nice to get some degree of financial certainty before the close season though as without it I can't see how we can do much over the summer.

If someone told me that Yakubu, Saha, Fellaini, Pienaar, Osman, Cahill and Arteta would all be injured at some point in the season, and coming in and out of injury, and that we would have to play Gosling, Rodwell, Hibbert and Neville in midfield id expect us to finish around 15th.

Happily we have done well.

Yes. I predicted we'd finish 8th this year. If we mess up big time, 7th is the lowest we could be in the league IMO.

And a semi-final FA Cup run is always a good indication. We've been to the semis of 2 cup competitions in 2 seasons now.

Its progress, albeit slow, even if it has been 6 odd years under Moyes. But given the financial circumstances and how unflexible we are as a club in regards to trying to keep afloat in the league after coming back from religation fodder, we've done well.

People can complain that Spurs, Pompey etc have all won cups over the years while we havent, so untill we do that nothing is good enough etc, but compared to the amount of money they spend, and the poor squad Moyes took over (albeit a few good players) - he's made slow but steady progress.

What been done?
Lower the average age of the squad
Become top 8 regulars
Added quality to the sqaud (still on going)
Qualified for Europe
Champtions League (not successful and but we're getting close again)
Good cup runs.

What's next?
Investment.
Adding more depth.

And one key element is -- sorting things out pre-season. Pre-season seems to be a key factor for us. Bedding in players and kinda winging it for a month or 2 as the season starts clearly hurts the season overall.

But Moyes is till learning. And you can see in this cup run the hunger to win the effing thing. His last interview after Boro all he kept saying was "win" which is always comforting to hear.

Injuries have hit us in a bad way this season so in hindsight I definitely would take a european place and a decent cup run.

Yes, sixth and a win at wembley would be a good end to the season after our bad start and considering the injuries.

Kenada_blue is right that we need to sort out pre season. We need to get out of the trap of leaving transfers until last minute to give DM and the team a better start.

Can't really argue with the season so far. The boys have worked tremendously hard to get anything at all out of it. More importantly for me though, Moyes is starting to sound like he wants a real football team. Big improvement from him after he decided to stay. Next season I want to win the UEFA cup.

To date the season has been good just a couple of blips. If the FSW can claim that because Torres (just one player) was injured and has cost them the PL Title then what of our injuries cost? If the FSW had out treatment list he would be pulling his beard out.

This is key. I remember only the season when we got Jagielka in early as the only one under Moyes when business was done early. It's crucail, but the niggling doubt is that this club is so hand to mouth in it's operation as a club that paying wages for 2/3 months more than they *have to* could be part of the problem.

I have to part company with you on that. If Moyes has done anything since he took over it's been to emphasise League position over cup competitions. I'm not saying he wouldn't take your hand off if offered the cup this season, but even now he downgrades the cup almost to an irrelevancy...something the club was once good at but is now a distraction. That was highlighted in microcosm with his decision to keep Fellaini on the pitch against Hull when he knew a yellow would rule him out of the Cup Derby. I think his overall record in cups at Everton has been appalling and his attitude probably offers the reason why.

Yes, becaus we had a slow start; yes, because we were able to seed some new players for the future; yes, because if we can finish 6th with such a troubled season, it means we can be hopeful of something really good for next season.

Given the first month of the season and the injuries weve suffered id say yes.

Theres some sneaky teams coming up behind us with 10 games still to play Man city and West HAm have started picking up points.
