I remember when Rooney first burst into the England team whilst playing with us I thought he was nailed on to be one of the best in the world. He stormed the Euros, got a hat-trick on his United debut. Then he seemed to go backwards, losing the Roy of the Rovers'ness he had with us.
This season though he looks to be finally getting back to his Everton self, and on current form could replicate Ronaldo in getting 40+ goals this season. I can't see United winning the Champions League, and probably not the PL either, but in a World Cup year, a good tournament and it wouldn't surprise me to see him crowned World Player of the Year.
