Great start for him at the club, albeit in friendlies so far.
We have to dial down the expectation on him though. He cant be seen as a like for like replacement for what we have at CB right now.
Could be my new branthwaite this year for 1st goal scorer e/w...….i think he was Lyon’s 2nd leading scorer last season, albeit with 4 or 5 and whilst that’s a useful dimension he’ll ultimately be judged on his defensive ability.
Encouraging start.
Like Mike Lyons then what a player he was he would have run through a brick wall for us….i think he was Lyon’s 2nd leading scorer last season, albeit with 4 or 5 and whilst that’s a useful dimension he’ll ultimately be judged on his defensive ability.

Lets face it he is not keeping Tarkowski out of the side as he is our de facto captain, and Branthwaite is next summer's cash cow once he has played a few internationals. Unless Dyche is planning to switch to a 3 (which might also show in the reluctance to bring in FB's) - which seems an incredible change so close to season KO and so late in his career.Desperately hope I'm wrong, but can't help getting Ben Gibson vibes from this signing.
Gibson attracted interest from several top clubs and was even included in an England squad while at Boro. He became Burnley's record signing when they paid £15 million for him. But Dyche don't rotate his defenders and injuries were needed for Gibson to get any chance. He got one league game for Burnley (scoring their goal when they lost 1-5 at Goodison) before he had a massive fall out of Dyche.
Of course, in hindsight you can argue that Dyche was right and Gibson aren't good enough. But two seasons of not playing because he signed for the wrong club/manager are likely to have affected the rest of his career.
If Tarkowski and Branthwaite are available, they are likely to start every single league game the upcoming season. And if we draw someone half-decent, they'll play all the cup matches as well. And I won't trust Dyche to trust a young O'Brien over Keane if/when he want to play with a back five to hold on to a result at the end of matches.
It is not unlikely that 12 months from now O'Brien are still waiting for his first Everton start in a proper match. If that's the case, he should be looking for a move and Everton would be lucky to get back half of what they paid for him.
On paper there is a lot to like with the signing. Good age, resell value etc. Important. If you have a plan and use your squad. He'll need to play a lot to retain his market value. He'll need a Branthwaite sale or injuries for Branthwaite, Tarkowski and possibly Keane.
