.....the dive was something else.
He'd seen everyone else get them against us so I suppose he thought he'd give it a go.

Should have got some lessons off Bill and practised it more though, looked that was probably the first bit of acting he's ever done. It wasn't very convincing, he didn't even roll over several times.

You mean we're not even practicing set pieces like diving now? FFS

Martinez out!

I've been harsh on McCarthy this season, but I'm happy to say he's quickly proving me wrong. He was great today and even had a good shot denied by mignolet. I hope we don't see him revert to only ever playing the back pass, because he offers direct attack through the middle when he plays like he did today. Also, brilliant work keeping Coutinho quiet all day.

An interesting comment I found about him and his game.
Always rated him, then looked through what he actually does and it doesn't really amount to much.

40 central midfielders in the Premier League made more tackles and were dribbled past less often. 40 central midfielders in the Premier League got more shots on target and created more chances. His best attribute of the ones I looked at was dribbling and even that he was outside the top 30.

He was pretty much the only central midfielder who seemed to do nothing particularly well. Even of the more average ones, Craig Gardner made a ton of tackles and could shoot, Delph a great dribbler, James Morrison created tonnes of chances and can shoot, Wanyama wins loads of tackles and can dribble, Shelvey can shoot and dribble, Rodwell can shoot and made more tackles and successful dribbles than McCarthy.

Even lower down, Quinn could create, shoot and had more tackles than McCarthy, James was extremely creative, Bridcutt could tackle, Livermore could tackle, Sanchez could tackle, Mulumbu can tackle and dribble.

McCarthy doesn't seem to do anything except close down and pass to team-mates in unthreatening areas.

Wow, so 'interesting' in what way? they are so ignorance of what McCarthy actually does. I'm surprised they can switch a computer on let alone post.

Are they seriously comparing what Morrison/Delph or even Barry's job is within a team to McCarthy's??

McCarthy is there to snub out the opposition, he negated Cuntinho perfectly today, the opposition's best player, then keep the ball moving, recycling possession. He's not an attacking midfielder (though I have seen him played there in previous years), Bobby wants him to be more disciplined that than that, Barry is the one Bobby wants to trigger attacks, James is there to contain, mop up and recycle possession. Show me some stats relevant to other players doing the same thing and I might give a toss.
