He's live on Twitch right now, go have a word with him lads.
Is he really? He seems to be more consistently available to Twitch than he ever was to Everton. This weird need to broadcast to the world every night is almost as bizarre as me posting about him here. I think I'll go back to my Big Match Revisited DVDs...

He has the 8th-largest social media following of any athlete in the world.

He is currently isolating at home. What else does he have to do?

Oh, sorry, he should be sat reading up on Everton's illustrious history, singing along to the 'death to Carlo songs', showing ultimate respect to the club that want him gone just as much/if not more than he wants out and watching Howard's Way on repeat.

Its not that weird when you consider his twitch stream most likely has thousands of people worshipping him in chat, nice ego boost

It's also just part and the parcel of being one of the biggest global stars in sport.

Oh, and he's in isolation so literally what else is he meant to be doing?

Well we didn't pay any money. Based on quality alone, he's absolutely worth a fee, but in a depressed market probably not.

Personally, I'm furious that the club have spent so badly elsewhere that we are genuinely just looking to get his wages off the books. That's not on James. It is on Brands, Moshiri, Carlo, Silva and everyone else that has been culpable for the last 3 years, as they've made what was a bad mess already worse.
Fair comment. Even his wage demands will likely prove a hurdle in getting him a move and it would not sit well if Everton subsided his wages on a loan to another club

We have to replace the chances he creates and goals he scores then.

None of our current players come close and no 'crossing it in' isn't the only answer.

I want to keep James for this reason. He offers us an alternative to just putting crosses in. He can play through balls and switch play. If he goes replacing him will be difficult even if he was only available for 50-60% of games.

What else is he meant to be doing? How about something non-attention seeking? Perhaps reading a book, watching tv, having a virtual conversation with, you know, an audience somewhat smaller than the collective population of Latin America? Is Messi or Ronaldo on Twitch tonight or are they simply being professional?

This is the James issue in a nutshell. More famous for being famous than for anything he can reliably and consistently do on the pitch.

He' a neck like a jockeys bollox but calfs like candy floss.

Ben get this blow in out of my football club.

As I said, it's part of his global attraction.

Why do you think you have any right to tell a 30-year-old what to do in his spare time? :D

Bloody hell fella

I don't - but I have the right to an opinion that this guy has a serious attitude problem, and as an Everton fan I have a right to opine that his latest crass public exhibitionism on social media is further evidence of this. He'd have had more dignity if he'd flashed his tackle. But then, James doesn't tackle. He generally doesn't turn up on a consistent basis either.

I was thrilled when Everton signed James. He's a gifted footballer. But he's simply not committed. That was shown when the going got tough last season. Did we see James at the Etihad, showing support to his team-mates even if he was unable to play? No, but we saw him on a private jet on social media. James is all about Brand James. Good luck to him. It's clear Benitez doesn't want him, but his comments last night have simply played into the hands of Benitez. For what it's worth, I'd be moving heaven and earth to build my team around James, but his behaviour suggests that that is a naive view. The sooner this circus - live on social media - is ended, the better.

But him being on Twitch isn't any evidence of an attitude issue, is it?

Look, he's a massive social media presence. It's just what it is.

On the pitch, when he plays, he is on 9/10 times, excellent. His issue is niggling injuries and fitness but ultimately that will be his issue until the day he retired.

He couldn't go to the Etihad, regardless if he'd been in the country. He wouldn't have been part of the squad as he was injured. He was given permission to return to Colombia. He shouldn't have put the photo on and if he hadn't it had all have been avoided - it was a stupid thing to do. But it doesn't change the fact he couldn't have been there.

The Wolves game at home was different. He could have been part of the home squad and there to see the fans.

I blame the club as much as the player, and I blame the club - because this is on the club - for being in such a bad financial position that we need his wages off the books, because he's a fantastic player.

But him being on Twitch isn't any evidence of an attitude issue, is it?
Him being on Twitch announcing to the world that he doesn't know the very next opponents of the club that pays him around 200k a week is, yeah. It's eveidence of deep unprofessionalism. Whatever about how it made the club look (they deserve it), he made himself look like a massively entitled mercenary. Which of course he is.

The thing is, it's not that he didn't know who our next opponents were. That's understandable when he has been effectively excommunicated. It's that he announced this to the world without a screed of self-awareness. He simply doesn't care. Neither would I, in his circumstances, but a true professional would never have pulled back the curtain and revealed the truth so starkly. You can get away with that attitude when you are reliably producing the goods on the pitch, but James isn't. He is now a more reliable entertainer on social media than he is on the pitch. A circus act for public consumption.
