January Transfer Thread 2017

He's our player, we own him, we pay his wages, so maybe it's a case of us just giving Barca first refusal and saying "Do you want to use your buy it back clause because we want to move him on?"

Just a case of notification really. Anyone could buy him in January.

Personally I think it's a shame, but obviously Koeman doesn't rate him and he must do very little in training.

...seems to be growing rumours about Keane from Burnley but it might be the initial one being repeated. Contract up in 2018, his cub might have to balance cashing in now or staying above the relegation zone. Have to admit to not having a view on the player.

Just because they "can buy him back at an agreed fee" doesn't stop us selling to others. We could get £20m from say Milan in the summer, but Barcelona could get him for £12m at the same time. (or whatever the agreed fee is). If the player chose Milan, he chooses Milan. Whether it be January or June.

It goes against freedom to move, completely. The only time you'll get something that stops that is competition rules (like can't play for clubs in europe if they've played elsewhere before etc).
Sorry but that just doesn't make any sense. It doesn't go against any "freedom to move". A contract is a contract. A player can't just up and leave if he's under contract, only when that contract comes to an end.

This is no different. The fact is Barcelona have a buy back option this coming summer for 12 million euros. We cannot, under any circumstances, just ignore them and sell the player on to someone else for whatever fee we choose.

Barcelona will have to be involved in any potential sale of the player this January. Now as has already been said, they may have already said they have no intention of re-signing the player next summer and waived their buy back rights, we don't know.

But at the risk of repeating myself, we can't simply ignore them and sell the player without involving them in the negotiations.

Barca had to waive the buyback clause in Adama Traore's contract before he could move to Boro, so the same would have to happen with Geri.

i think we should set our sights higher...

Koulibaly / VVD /Gimenez all are class players and belong in premier and champions league winning sides.

Keane doesnt strike me as being of the same calibre.

Why because he plays for Burnley?? Maybe he should go somewhere for £20m then we can buy him for £40m, will that be better

I'm sure I read something at the time that Barca couldn't just buy him back to sell him on. Had to stay at Barca for at least another season or something like that.

Plus he had to be included in the 1st team squad, which if they are not going to play him, is a waste of a spot.

People are dreaming if they think we're going to sign Van Dijk. Michael Keane would be an excellent signing. Get in Schneiderlin and Depay (though I'm unconvinced on the latter) and ffs sign a goalkeeper
