Joel Robles

Tbh it was really unfair of everyone to slate Neville for his performances on the pitch. Clearly he was actually a GK playing out of position. I mean would you expect Howard to make a good defender or midfielder??

I wouldn't expect Howard to make a good goalkeeper either to be fair...

For me, he's done well when he's played but doesn't fill me with enough confidence to suggest he's good enough to be our first choice keeper for the next number of years. I would be keen for a keeper to be signed and Joel to be a backup.

What more does he need to do in order for people to trust him? Apart from keeping up what he is already doing ?

He's been one of the pleasant surprises of the season. He looked good last season for his brief cameo, but looks even more assured this time around.

It's the small things, along with his good shot blocking, and confident coming for crosses.

For instance I noticed he was pointing to Baines to go onto the back post for the corner that he ended up cleared off the line.

Proving me wrong. Keep it up. May not need to buy a number 1 in Summer

...yep. The key statement is 'keep it up'. If he continues this level of consistent performance to the end of the season then it'll have to be a very goodun' who is able to replace him.

Not sure of his contract situation.

then I ask the question, is he a top class keeper. If he was, surely some of the so called bigger teams would be showing some interest.

Not great logic, this. There's plenty of great players rich teams have ignored. Especially in the GK position, where the pool is small and 1 top class player is usually enough

Literally should be the last thing on our minds in the summer. Robles and Stek are both good keepers imo, and Robles in particular has been outstanding. Barring a series of incredible mishaps, let the lad keep goal and grow ffs

Can you imagine this thread if he gave a performance like that top 4 keeper Lloris did against City a couple of weeks ago?

I think the is a tendency to think that somebody is only any good if a ton of money was spent on them? I have always thought Robles was decent but now consider him to be a good keeper. Potentially he could be very good indeed, so save the dosh we would have spent on a new keeper to top up our striker fund!

Unless Joe Hart becomes available then Joel is absolutely earning his place as number one. Even then I'd start Joel and push Joe to challenge for the number one spot. Joel has huge potential.

He's better than hart IMO... he might not fetch as much if he was sold but that means nothing IMO... in a world where more money is spent on Sterling than was spent on lukaku ... transfer fees don't show how good a player is necessarily. Robles has literally not cost us a single goal and has earned us points.... hart is basically a david james , he has great games but will make at least 8 cock ups a season that are unbelievably stupid and cost points... Robles isn't top class yet and may never be... but he's proving to be a good keeper and has improved immensely . He has been dropped for no reason and had to watch the clown play before him for years... he has put the work in and waited for his chance and improved his skills... this shows me he is mentally strong and works hard ... this hopefully means he will continue to do so and keep improving... he could become top class ... but we will never know if we buy someone like hart

Not convinced Joe Hart is better than Robles. Most certainly not on current form. If he keeps improving like he has over the past few months, he'll become the far more superior goalkeeper of the two imo.

It wasnt exactly a brief cameo either mate. Once RM eventually saw the light Joel got a decent run in the team. Since then his only real blip has been Sunderland away. Thats pretty consistent.

This season he has raised the bar further so that if this level of prrformance continues, I would consider him 3rd best in the league after De Gea and Courtois. Still a very big IF, but who'd have though that 12 months ago.
