John Stones transfer saga

This would all stop if Martinez or Kenwright had the 'stones' to say he isn't for sale at any price to the papers.

Saying that I wouldn't believe Kenwright if he told me the Pope was a Catholic.

We'd all be big clubs if we had a billionaire ploughing billions into them you utter prat. Someone needs to remind him who has the more league titles too, implying we're a small club. We have small time owners, we are NOT a small club. For this alone I would reject every offer they put in.

At least after stones goes we won't have any players left to sell to big clubs.

We need this money at some point, but if he goes this summer (and lukaku to follow next) and Martinez is the one who reinvests this money...this mid table mediocrity could look very appealing in a couple of years

But that is the problem, there aren't that many good ones with league experience that cost less than that.

Even young foreign talented ones aren't cheap - Zouma cost Chelsea 12m for example and Managla cost around 40m. Arsenal spent 16m on Chambers and 12m on Gabriel - surely if there were ball playing CBs lying around for cheaper Wenger is likely to have tried to sign them?

I don't believe that for a minute. As long as we are scouting correctly there are foreign CB'S available at a fraction of the price Stones will go for. The ones mentioned were lauded as being the next big thing, ala Stones so they will command big fees. We have not and never will shop for these players unless we get bought by a billionaire. There are players out there, it just means that the scouts etc are going to have to earn their money. I do agree that British centre backs come at a premium mind and we will be wise to possibly look abroad.

...for someone to replace Stones, it will need to be someone better than all the centre backs we've been linked with. Someone mentioned Palace would want £18m for Dann, so imagine how much a decent centre back would cost.

The point is, we can't afford Stones to leave for less than 60m

But buying British does come at a premium, it always has. There are players out there under the radar etc that hopefully we have an eye on. It should not cost us 15 - 20m to buy a replacement. Its the model we have worked with under Kenwright and it will continue that way, buy small, sell big. Its worked pretty well for us but is not without its risks.

Club and player are far too quiet for me. If he is unsettled it reminds me of Lescott and that awful game he played before his move. EFC should have Chelsea over a barrel here, unfortunately our club lacks the business acumen to come out as winners.
