John Stones transfer saga

I have said all along that I expect all the wealthy clubs have asked Everton to keep them "informed" of the Stones situation.
I don't believe City will bid. All they have to so is tell Everton they are interested in buying the player if he becomes available.
If Everton decided to sell , then all interested parties can get involved.

It is hard to see where Chelsea are going with all of this. The money they offered in the second bid is probably 10m less than the amount that would make Everton give serious consideration to a sale. At present they seem to be intent on trying to bully their way through to a purchase.

I think the statement from Everton yesterday was very well put. Short and very clear.
Another failed bid , another concise reply from Everton will start to make Chelsea look silly and desperate.

As you said, it's clearly a case of Chelsea trying to stamp all over us because they're rich and big club Chelsea and were little insignificant Everton.

Seeing the way they have gone about this and the way the media have lapped it up, if he does go, I really hope we do Chelsea over whilst getting the maximum amount possible. If that means him going to City for a bit extra then i'd be happy with that.

Obviously I want him to stay and for the club to stay strong like they appear to be doing, but I don't want us to do business with Chelsea. These clubs and the media need to realise that we're not in the vulnerable position we were in the Rooney era.

have they even bought any young players in the hope of bringing them through in a few years time under the sheiks? they have a bottomless pit so don't really need to .

City have actually bought quite a few promising youngsters in the past few years from Portugal, France and Spain. And of course Patrick Roberts from Fulham and, ahem , Sterling , recently. They have literally spent hundreds of millions on their Academy with only Micah Richards coming through in recent years. Why would any youngster in English football go there with their success rate.? Hence to get their quota of English players they will always keep an eye on the availability of the likes of Stones and Ross.

sterling's been a first teamer in the prem for 2 years. same as stones. the way they're writing it is as if they were following him at barnsley - tehy clearly haven't. they've bought a few youngsters yes, but have they brought any of them through? nope.

Well there's also (choosing Spurs) Lamela, Rebrov, Paulinho, Soldado, Vertonghen... I can do the same with most clubs. English clubs have the most money so they buy a lot of English players...a lot are inflated but there's been a few English bargains as well. Stones for one!

Honestly think Stones is already one of the top 5 CBs in the premier league. Must admit I dont know much about the rest of the world but can't think there's going to be many that are better.

He's also only going to get better. £45m up front and we can have a conversation.
 Vertonghen is boss.

Yeah he shouldnt be on the list really. Swap him for Chadli...or someone. Point stands anyway.

If he is to go then the more involved the better for us

Just read swansea have put a 25m price tag on Williams head......................... Stones is worth a whole lot more than that

They're presumably doing what we've done in regards to issuing a hands off in the form of slapping a ridic' price tag on his head... except wherever I've seen that figure reported the rags seem to respect that as a reasonable action from Swansea, whereas we get a load of beauts raging at us because we're ungratefully clinging on to the rightful heir of John Terry.

I dont get the Terry comparisons at all either whilst we are on about it
But yeah your are right..... it cant be long till the "holding him back" shouts come out....... the same journos who will be moaning like [Poor language removed] next some when england slump out of the euros cos players arent playing regular football

This is exactly it. Don't underestimate the pressure the buying club feels as well. When we try to buy a player, put a bid in that fails what happens? There is massive fume and pressure to get the deal done. While I don't think football clubs are dictated by their fans it certainly plays a part. Nobody wants a toxic atmosphere at their ground.

This is what Liverpool sussed out well with City. They basically held their nerve more than City. City opened up 5 million more than Chelsea did for Stones. Their second big was upped by similar amounts. They ended up looking weak as they kept going back. They could have easily put a final offer in and left it, and let Liverpool sweat. However Chelsea appear to be following a similar model. We should reject outright and not panic. Cahill has just got injured now, they will blink before we do.

Here's what I reckon Martinez should say at the next presser-

"we were all very suprised a 2nd bid for Stones was made by Chelsea.

Jose said all Everton have to do is say he's not available at any price. We stated this in a letter sent to Chelsea after the 1st bid was made.

So I can only assume 1 of 2 things are true. Either 1, Jose is an outright liar. Or 2, people higher up at Chelsea are making decisions behind his back.

You'll have to ask him which is true!"

It's time to start rattling a few cages and playing a bit of hard ball!
