John Stones transfer saga

The blunt reality is Everton recruit well but lack the funds to do it as much as we'd like. I am not saying we should sell Stones, but the world will not cave in if we sell him. We have sold many star players over recent years, yet the club always managed to survive.

Only Survival Is Acceptable. I don't want to sell Stones because it will stop us from getting better. I don't think we'll get relegated if we sell him. We'll buy a defender approx. as good as Stones now with a much lower ceiling. We'll get some other players who are about as good as our current players. We will continue to hover around 8-5 in the league.

Our only shot at top four is having players like Stones playing for us. That's it. At some point we have to take a stand or we'll be going in circles until we are all very old.

Amazing how the media don't want to write about this....

Even the "breaking" aspect ... it's what we said immediately. Weeks ago. It's only because they got bored writing the stories about how inevitable it is and someone said "anyone got a new angle on this Stones to Chelsea thing?" and someone said "do you know Everton actually say they don't want to sell him?" and everyone in the newsroom laughed for 30 minutes and then someone said "sure kid ... write that up in a tweet."

If he is to go then the more involved the better for us

Just read swansea have put a 25m price tag on Williams head......................... Stones is worth a whole lot more than that

Great! If people think we will accept 35m and one we give Barnsley their cut we can use almost all the Stones fees on him. SELL TO BUY! CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HERE WE COME!

And there is always a chance, no matter how small it may seem, that Stones may not end up fulfilling his potential. He could end up getting a career ruining injury or just going off the boil and being a good, but not great, player.

Sure ... but those odds are absolutely lower than the odds of the unknowns we will get in with the money. Sure Stones could not work out. Some people here thought Rodwell would be world class (and some did not too TBF).

However Stones: works in our team, likes the area, can play in the Prem, has a very high ceiling.

Replacements: no idea if they work in our team, no idea if they like living in the area, possibly no idea if they can play in the Prem if we buy them outside the league, almost certainly have a lower ceiling than Stones, and (because we'd likely spend it on more than one player) would cost more than even a renewed contract Stones in salary.

There is risk in everything we do ... but risk-wise it's a riskier move to sell.

Must admit I'm kinda impressed with what the club are doing with this stones situation. If all is to believed everton are saying "hello"... "oh ye again"..... "no lol" ......"look go to yer russian mob back home come back with a ship load if cash and by that we mean a jaw dropping amount like a trillion dollarzzzz and if ye don't we are extremely happy to have stones as the lynch pin of our defense. Bye".. Hung up

Vital we keep hold at least for another season. if his agent has any amount of knowledge and isn't in any way like sterlings, then he will continue to play first team football week in week out. unfortunately, most of us are used to what happens next. he will get pried away from the club. but we could be looking at double what they are offering now. just on a final note, does anybody else miss the reassurance of a Moyes signing ? Coleman & Stones as the last couple of transfers. incredible business.

Nobody wanted him last year. Before this season, he was generally seen as an injury prone waste of potential. Why risk ending your contract and ending up at an even worse club than Villa, when you can get a raise, and be given an out when a bigger club does come along?

....not prolonging this but I think he was very much in demand when his contract was up. My opinion but let's leave because it's not EFC related.

have been frustrated in their efforts to sign Everton defender John Stones, with a second bid of £26m turned down on Wednesday. However, the Premier League champions are prepared to bid up to £30m which includes a series of add-ons.

This is still short of Everton's £34m valuation for the England centre back and the Merseyside club are hopeful that interest from Manchester United

could drive his price up.
Standard Sport's Simon Johnson reports from the US, as Chelsea's pre-season tour comes to an end.

Not really sure how us saying 'not for sale' equals '34 million valuation' but never mind!

I know, where do they get these figures from? Not for sale is not for sale, as for the 34m valuation i hope Chelsea bid it and we turn it down again, all they are doing is wasting there own time.
I'd love to see the media deal with that! Probably something along the lines of 'in a sensational twist the glorious Chelsea have bid those Everton bastards overpriced amount and they've still decided to reject this incredible offer of a lifetime. Our thoughts and prayers are with poor John who was already house hunting and planning on buying eight new cars with his signing on fee. Also spare a thought for poor Barnsley who will now probably go bust as a result of this non-transfer. Horrible, horrible Everton.'

To be fair, Echo ran a story saying we valued him higher than what City paid for Mangala last year, bit of guesswork would put the price around the mid £30 million price bracket.

You're making the assumption that Everton contacted SSN.
It's much more likely to have been the other way round and why on earth should the club make a statement on the OS ?
Why would SSN contact Everton saying something like "I know you have rejected a bid for 26m, but are you selling him?" after spending best part of 1-2 weeks reporting club wont sell him.

They wouldnt. And in regards to the OS, if a statement was stuck on there "Stones will not leave this summer for any price whatsoever" it ends this. SSN little story is full of conjecture.
