John Stones

thats the key to his and barkley's success, too often you hear this not ready nonsense and inferior players picked and make mistakes but are ignored largely because they are experienced, theres only one way talented kids are going to learn and thats by showing them a bit of faith and playing them

Yeah, all players make mistakes, I mean look at Vincent Kompany today...
The problem with youngsters is that they are usually inconsistent - for every good match they have, they'll have an anonymous one, despite all their natural talent. As you learn your trade as a footballer you learn how to become more consistent and bring your level of performance up. The great thing about Stones is that he's barely put in a poor performance so far. That's seriously impressive for a 19 year old.

Hi, Barnsley fan here firstly i would like to make comment on how well you lot are doing, really enjoy watching your games on tv... And secondly i was just wondering what you are all thinking of Stonesy? I see highlights now and again and he always looks well. I was a really big fan of his while he was at Oakwell, but knew he wouldn't be around for long. In my opinion i knew he could make it at the top level. From what i have seen of him in a blue shirt he looks a class act.

Am an American. Recent convert to Everton. So much EFC on my mind now the other day when Guns'N'Roses came on the radio, I somehow turned "Mister Brownstone" into a tribute to "Mister John Stones" completely on the fly.

Love the lid.

(And love Barnsley courtesy of FIFA14. My Everton newbie player spent his first season on loan with you.)

Totally unflappable this lad. I'm sure he's the love child of Franz Beckenbaur and The Fonz.

Having said that, he could do with being a little less casual with his pass backs to Tim.

He'll cut them out, no worries at all. He's cool as a cucumber on the ball and love the way he waltzes past players out of defence.

It's bizarre to me that he's not being talked about as a cert for the world cup.

Phil Jones, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka - they are the three I'd have as starters, but when you look at the rest - Shawcross, Caulker, Smalling etc. I'd have Stones ahead of any of them, on form and ability.

He won't go because that's the way the England team is managed, but he should be.

As an Everton fan i'm glad he's not.

As an England fan I wish he was!

Agreed with this, but as he doesn't play for United, City, Chelsea or Liverpool he won't even be considered.

I'd start with Jagielka and Cahill... but apart from them we literally have nobody I'd have confidence in who is likely to be taken along.

I'd honestly play Stones and Cahill - they are two exceptional players with pace and ability in possession, and that's the way international football needs to be played.

England actually have a squad that potentially could make a semi-final (and at that point, it's the roll of a dice to win it), but unfortunately they also have a manager and a media brigade who simply can't.

I'm sure you've had many replies of the same sort but he's fantastic. As good a compliment I can make is that we've hardly missed Jagielka. I have little doubt that he'll go on to be a world class centre back, he really is that good.

I don't know if you can start Stones... not that I think Jagielka is world class by the way because I am not convinced, even though he is a good player. Cahill is a player I like a lot.

Smalling and Jones are both a joke, both for United and England. Caulker has done nothing to earn himself a place in this discussion.

Seeing as we can take 23 players, taking Stones if he keeps up his excellent form, even if just for experience, would be a wise move on the manager's behalf in view of him playing in future championships.

I can understand saying you wouldn't start Stones due to his age and experience, but the lad looks completely unflappable. The Panenka in pre-season hinted at it, but his performances since have been nothing short of unbelievable.

I agree with you for the most there but I could definitely make an argument for Stones starting.

I love this lad.

Understandably, Barkley is highlighted as a world class prospect.

I would argue that this lad is every bit as good, if not better. I'm 33 next week, I've never seen a defender like him at Everton. I am ridiculously excited about him.

On the way back from Barnsley away (ironically) with Burnley the other night, Burnley's commentator was saying how he believes Stones is class and he should be going to Brazil.

Those who watch from a perspective are seeing it.

Can't remember who said it but an Arsenal fan on twitter was saying "How can we not get past Stones, he's utter [Poor language removed]".. ]

Show's how clueless football fans can be.
