Ok, he's no Southall but didn't we all know before a ball was kicked that he, like Jagielka and Baines last time, was going to be the scapegoat for the Big-6 besotted press. Equally, if Ing-er-land do get involved in a penalty shoot out and Jordan is lucky enough (cos that is what a lot of it is) to save one, they will brazenly say the opposite and that he's far too good for little old Everton.

Well done Southgate for sticking up for him.

Pretty much this. It's feast or famine when you are England's keeper.

Too short apparently, nonsense of course, football "pundits" think there's a player too short for every position but some of the best that's ever been have been very short.

There's pros and cons for every position for being too short

I remember a few pundits saying to be a top centre-half you had to be 6 foot plus, Puyol 5’ 10”,
Cannavaro 5’ 9”, and the second best centre- half’s of all time IMO (behind Maldini) Franco Baresi 5’ 9” (and there will be plenty more) sort of mocks that point of view.

Pickford's style as a shot-stopper is to use stiff wrists to push the ball away from his goal as far as possible. I'm not sure he should be doing this as often as he does. Sometimes soft wrists would be better to parry the ball round the post or over the bar.
I thought he had a great first half to last season but was bang average after that. The apparent aversion to long range shots is relatively new and was brought right into focus with the howler at West Ham from Arnautovich. In dealing with shots from distance in the WC he seems to be uncertain as to how best to react.
He needs a good game against Columbia -- the media is sharpening its knives.

Seems to be a common thing nowadays with young keepers it is a major concern of mine and was last season. Not sure if this playing out of from the back has introduced this stiff wrist and relying on your back line to hoof it or play it clear. He's young he'll learn, I'm praying for a good game tomorrow.

Isn't the reason alot of keepers don't try and catch the ball these days is because the balls are that light and move about in the air that you would probably drop it anyway so they opt to punch it away

Hes a big lad and he won't give a flying one what the press are saying. He'll know when he's made a mistake and when he hasn't and I'm pretty sure he has the backing of the management and players as they know he's a cracking keeper.

Yeah, punching can be the best option at times, try and catch and dont your dropping it right in the most dangerous part of the pitch, get a nice punch and get it away.

everyone rates Casper Schmeichal and he punched nearly everything that came near him last night, you can't do right for doing wrong as Englands No1, oh and he is 1.89m!

Kasper saved 3 pens and almost singlehandedly dragged his nation to the quarters

He does neither, Instead he just palms it into the danger zone most of the time
