Hoof ball you say.

What about the performances at Brighton and Leicester then?
We ran a tired Brighton into the ground, and we should have beaten Leicester easily given the chances we had. Look, at the end of the day I'm not against giving Dyche a go but he is going to have to show a hell of a lot more than he did at Burnley and I'm just not sure he has it that's all.

I am sure that Dyche and Thelwell, will have targets lined up (whether they are targets we like is another matter) but I would guess this depends on a number of factors within the club e.g. Finances, accounting periods for P&S e.g. no new contracts until July 1st, players we are after may well be waiting to see what other opportunities transpire for them during the summer - there are a lot of contingencies which aren’t solely down to Thelwell.

Its the power vacuum i concerned about to be honest. I beleive neither the manager or DOF have the power sign off on a player without approval higher up the food chain - given a changing board, possible change in majority shareholder or new board reps - who and what process have been put in place during this transition......youd trust Everton very little to manage this well.

It could go either way, either Moshiri clings on and refuses to move, which means we really are done for, or he goes and MSP come in with clear vision and a plan, and hopfully funds, all this has to be sorted first really, and quick
Waiting for a resolution on these matters reminds me of those scenes in Zero Dark Thirty, whereby the heroine keeps crossing off the glazed walls the number of days passing without a response to her requirements.

Can he be vindicated for not signing anyone in January now we’ve stayed up?

Maupay was a disaster but all his other summer signings did ok, apart from Vinagre who for some reason was never used.

I’ve been a massive critic of cocknose Thelwell, but if he manages to get some actual money for the likes of Holgate, Keane, etc. and brings in some players that make an impact, he can be forgiven for his lack of action in the Jan window.

I’m not very optimistic that he manages to do that, though.

There is always going to be the doubts about what level of influence and authority he has, and if he can push through on decisions.

It was, and still is, unforgivable not to strengthen in January if the means were there. It was playing roulette with our PL status and getting through it is no vindication of that.

He would also have some explaining to do on the dithering regarding Lampards sacking, Brighton if not Wolves should have been the end of the line for him.

I suspect he has far less pull in sacking a manager than in choosing signings though.

I'm yet to be convinced by him as most of us are it seems, but there are mitigating circumstances.

We need someone with a large degree of self-assuredness and gravitas to succeed in that role, to stand up in the room, I'm not sure he is that guy.

I suspect that has always been the case….either interference from above, or not enough autonomy to be given a budget and to work within it.

I don’t think he has done anything spectacular either positively or negatively. It is always difficult to judge the person in charge of transfers as we never know how much interference they get from Moshiri or Kenwright. Hopefully this window will allow him some latitude and he can bring in some talent and some steel.

I always wonder what Moyes would be like as a DoF. He’s just won his first trophy, he could leave West Ham, not sure he has much mileage left in the top flight - he has always struck me as an intelligent guy, and had an eye for a player (more at midfield / defence) and it would see to be an obvious step for him.

Just like a manager sometimes they have too be given a few windows. Kev Thelwell needs at least two more before we can really judge him.

I guess for January, the players that chose other clubs, didn't do very well, so maybe we were better off with out them?
