Why shouldn't he take the job? It the club want to be incompetent and pay him to do basically nothing sometimes then why should he not take advantage of it? This is like blaming Andre Gomes for taking a massive wage from us while he sits on the bench, not his fault the club offered it to him, he shouldn't get any abuse over it.

If the club want to let Thelwell do his job, he'd do a good job, however Kenwright and Moshiri can't help but interfere and ruin things. As a fanbase it's fairly insane to me that we've seen exactly how this club has been run in the last decade under Moshiri and Kenwright, we know how much of a mess it is and we know how tough it would be for anyone in the DoF position, yet we still as a fanbase throw unwarranted abuse and blame at this lad. Makes no sense to me.

Weve been here before with brands. Different argument about principles. im not that fussed as long as its clear.
His job description is DOF. Not assistant to the chairman.

Why not take the job? You're effectively basing that on your own criteria rather than anyone else's.

He was happy to take the job, knowing the structure in place. He can be overruled by those above him. He's happy to work in that structure.

That very structure might stop us being as successful as we could be, but that isn't Thelwell's doing. Thelwell knew what he signed up for and he's worked (without complaint, as far as we know) in it.

Why would we criticise someone for knowingly taking a well-paid job in a flawed company? I have done the same myself.

its like deja vu on here. We had all this with Brands.
Im an Everton fan. Im interested in Everton not being able to put a single striker on the pitch at the start of last season. Im interested in Everton having a less than goals per game ratio all season because we had one injury prone striker to pick.
This is the kevin thelwell thread. The DOF at this club. I will post in the Everton board thread about their fails. Im asking why the DOF in the DOF thread couldnt even get a single loan deal through the door in over a full year.
Thats why im asking about his job.
All you want to say is why shouldnt he take the job and do nothing.

I literally replied to you saying "Dont take the job then."

which was a response to the replies that he somehow cant be criticised because its absolutely nothing to do with him apparentely. He's as much in this as the board. He took the job. He cant sit in his office for a year. Do nothing and expect no questions about his role.

Anyone can be criticised, but criticism would be unfair without context of the situation.

For instance - he gets blamed for us not having brought in a striker other than Maupay since he got here. He allegedly didn't want Maupay and since then, as has been widely reported, he's had buttons to spend so any deal has to be one which involves a v low upfront payment. Understandably, most clubs aren't keen on that so it's not particularly easy to get in the aforementioned striker. Now, are either the Maupay or cash issues Thelwell's fault? No, they're the product of the very flawed structure and club he works for. Those issues would be exactly the same regardless of who was the DOF.

So I guess my take on the whole thing is - fine, criticise him all you like, but if, as you say, there's a load of Deja Vu about criticism of Thelwell and Brands, does that not perhaps suggest that the issues you've criticised them both on aren't necessarily of their own making?

Of course not. Brands came out and said there was to much interference for 3 years. 3 years that he was happy to take the money from though.
So as long as its clear that we establish that its just a well paid job and nothing else really. We may aswell just delete the DOF thread on here.

Mad that the comprehensive football review we had concluded that Kenwright is fine as Chairman, we don’t need an experienced CEO, and that strikers are pointless.
Nostalgic Bill probably pointing out that Pep won the league with no strikers(before buying the best) and that Iwobi is our very own KdB

Keep plugging away Kevin, you are doing a great job.

We are all fully behind you, well, we wouldnt be in front of you............

Keep doing them bits Mr T.

Bobble's mate...

Take with as much salt as you like.

Thing is though, that isn't being "undermined" per se, it's the structure he signed up to. Until that structure above him changes, we will continue to have problems like this.

This wouldn't surprise me with that dinosaur Kenwright.

His way of thinking is long outdated and Moshiri listens to him. They are both clueless.
