2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

….i’d be very surprised and hugely disappointed if Moyes doesn’t immediately hold the power when it comes to identifying transfers, loans and contract renewals.
I personally dont think Thelwell being here gets in the way of that at all. After all, even if Moyes identifies transfers, someone has to do the negotiations and put all the effort into that. Thelwell's sales have showns he can be a very good negotiator, so maybe they decided to retain him in that role, while having someone else identify the talent?

My only concern would be his ability to change tactics to negotiations that now have money behind them and have to get in better players(that will require better terms). Some can, some cant as they have one way of doing things.

I hope he is kept on. From what I've read he has sorted a lot of stuff out at FF.
A DoF should only be there to implement systems to identify youth talent, provide structure and support systems for all team ages and faciliate transfers for players that the manager wants. Basically be the 'office manager' to the CEO (for CEO read manager). They can recommend talent but they don't have final say on who we go for nor what system we play. That should always be down to the manager.

I don't know why people hate Thelwell so much. We've heard enough whispers that Dyche nixed a player Thelwell was close to, or else have seen distinctly Dyche misusing or not using players Thelwell was able to bring in. But he's in charge of more than transfers, so it could be that they're happy with what he's doing overall, even if they choose to give Moyes more control than Dyche had in that area.

At the very least, Moyes made a very telling statement when he said that he needs to rely on Thelwell's knowledge on transfers because he himself hasn't been involved and doesn't know all the players, etc., as well since he's been out of the game. Organizations do it all the time, but it would a mistake to lose institutional knowledge and project currency, and if they were willing to stick with Dyche through to the summer till he gave up, they should be willing to keep Thelwell in place to minimize disruption to operations.

It would be absolutely pathetic if Moyes had any power at the club outside of the first team coaching.

Thats how league 1 and league 2 clubs are run. Zero future proofing and doing exactly the same stupid random short term signings Everton have been making for years.

Signings should all be the decision of Thelwell unless there is a critical disagreement with the manager.

Certainly do not want another Koeman disaster and looking at Moyes poor conveyor belt of signings since leaving Everton he should be far away from transfers.

Do not give him any money to waste.

I’d trust Moyes to pick a player ahead of Thelwell ten times out of ten.

I think the scouting a recruitment has moved on exponentially since Moyes time before.
I suspect there’s so much data available for a much wider pool players that a manager simply doesn’t have time to keep on top of it AND move to get out and make contact while doing the day job.
Equally the days job has moved on too with so much analysis to go through that even that element of it is more time consuming.

Do Kev and Davy Boy know the window is open for business?
In case they have forgotten in the melee of changing managers and owners, we are a little short of points and goals.
I know its Everton that we are talking about here, but please have a plan in place and be close to completion.
Yeah right....
We don't have money to splash about. PSR still looms large and until the summer no-one will risk further point deductions.

Overseas loan or maybe one cheap incoming if we can sell Beto (or anyone else)
