2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

Our payroll definitely hasnt dropped 100m, but at the same time you have to read further pages into the accounts to get to payroll.

We have payroll of 139m, for all 532 staff members including management. Player wages thus have to be below that, and even if you gave very low salaries to everyone at the club that would leave you with maximum player wages of 100m. Considering revenue next season, that will leave us with a lot to spend.

Shame Kev doesnt seem to want to spend any of it right now.

Kevin won't be having a say mate, he's effectively on gardening leave, weird people can't see that. Moyes will be dictating proceedings. Chill

I was with Wolves fans yesterday, and they were bemoaning the loss of Thelwell and would have him back in an instant. My view is also that he’s done a very good job in unprecedented conditions and circumstances. Whether he stays on is another thing, but that might be down to what Moyes wants.

Moyes will have no choice in the matter. It's what TFG wants that will matter.

Odds are that Moyes will most likely be punted in the summer and TFG go with who they really wanted in the summer.

I don't mate. He has done some good some bad but ultimately regardless of well documented financial constraints we have a squad that lacks certain fundamental aspects for this league. We can blame Moshiri but this fella has been here what three years? And I can name the signings of quality he has made on one hand.

O’Brien, Lindstrom, Ndiaye, Iroegbunam, Onana, McNeil, Garner, Gueye, Tarkowski

Two hands mate

They can have him. Useless

That's the point really isn't it? Hard to do your best job when Mosh screwed up the finances and BK wanting to be in control of signing players as much as possible. I've no idea if he's capable of doing a good or bad job, but he was dealt crap cards on arrival.

TBF it mystifies me why people think he has done a bad job. Of the problems he inherited when he came in - a bloated squad full of panic buys and previous manager favourites, a wage bill that was far in excess of what it was delivering on the pitch and a history of bad signings - most of these have been fixed. We now sign players to a plan, with the best signings having been ones we've been working on for a long time. Of all the DOFs he has been by far and away the best - and with the apparent revalation that the likes of Lindstrom and JOB (and who knows how many others - Beto for example could benefit from a run of games) might actually have been mistreated by the former manager, I think hes earned a chance.

Personally I hope TFG and Moyes give him a season or two to actually do what he is employed to do, I think we'd see the benefit.

really good point about the bloated squad and the damage that does to morale too.

Great post mate 👍

If the financial constraints are severe enough then you're always going to lack 'certain fundamental aspects'. That's the problem he's been trying to resolve.

His job since he came in has been to first and foremost cut the wage bill drastically and minimise net spend while also providing the manager with a squad capable of staying in the PL until the takeover and move to BMD.

I have seen nothing to suggest that KT is not still operating as normal.
I think it very possible that our targets may have changed a little with the appointment of DM.
I think our targets may even have changed a little since Saturday afternoon.
What, I think, is clear that there are no leaks coming out of the club at the moment.

I do think that our recent policy of not spending large amounts on older , more expensive players will continue... at least I hope so.

He has had to work with both hands tied behind his back at times and with a number of managers in a short period of time. None of us really know the full extent of how good or bad of a job he is doing, but I think his links to the old regime will probably mean that he leaves. The only question for me is, if he is going in the summer anyway, why keep him once the window is closed? Get a new person in and let them work on getting players lined up for the summer.
