Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

John Collins, who wasn't a bad player, sums it up quite well.....

"Some managers, you look at him and you say he’s got talent, can I put that desire and that work ethic into him and turn him into a top player, but it’s difficult to give players that desire. When I watch him sometimes he doesn’t really want the ball all the time.

He’s talented, he’s got skill, he can beat a man and he can shoot but end product – 21 goals in 150 matches – I don’t think it’s a great figure.

Sometimes he doesn’t run, work and sweat enough for the team when you watch him.”

It's when something like this happens, that the likes of Dave and others are in their element.

They use things like this to try and validate their hatred of Koeman (see @Zatara in the have gone back to being a Moyes team thread), so they big up the player to make him sound like a world beater that the manager has not been able to hold onto.

Apparently now Barkley is potentially a Ballack, despite him being obviously indecisive, despite him being mentally weak and despite him being just a decent midfielder - but hey, lets compare him to a former world class star as hopefully nobody will really remember how decent Ballack was.

This mate. Even on first game of the season they spend the day talking same s88t instead of enjoying the build up and looking forward to it.
Morons

If he gets 25-30 PL goals this season will he have proven you wrong, or are you just taking a moral stance on his lifestyle?

If he gets 15 league goals this season I'll retract my statement and offer a written apology to the boy. He won't

this goes for both sides of the argument though.

the Barkley threads have not been a very reasonable and balanced place for a while now, so I cant understand how you are only commenting on those with a different viewpoint to yours. Its very odd Thomas, cant explain it....

I have expressed my thoughts on the Barkley situation very clearly, not just the opinions of others, maybe you have missed them dear :)

As for the point you are trying to make, there does seem to be a common theme amongst certain posters who thrive on using anything negative to have a go at our manager as they have repeatedly told us how much they dislike him, so I have commented on it as I find that very strange for grown ups, it's really not that hard to fathom.

Obvious the lad wants away,so any ideas how we fight "tooth and nail" to keep this one?

He's gone now. It's over. We'll next see RB at Wembley in a Spurs shirt.

23 years old and his best years ahead of him which should have been here but now isn't.

It's outrageous.

I can see Barkley moving to a team that finished above us last season but it won't be as a mainstay player, in fact I think the reason why Spurs are interested is because he's relatively cheap in today's market. He's a solid, (very) occasionally spectacular player that I think has almost hit his ceiling in terms of development.

I'm not particularly fussed about his departure if Sigurdsson replaces him. Iceland saved his football club last season from a virtually doomed premier league existence, Barkley can't even play against Liverpool without trying to either get sent off or disappear.

We get Spurs at home first this season Dave. Or will Ross not have "walked into their starting 11" by then?

Outrageous?

How so??

Disappointing he wanted to move for a "New Challenge", certainly, but not sure how we could force him to sign a contract for reportedly, £5m a year.

You can't 100% blame the player, for the same reasons you can't 100% blame the club.

Ultimately, Barkley has either not been sold on the project at his own boyhood club, fell out with Koeman or he's incredibly thick/greedy/whatever.

It's probably a combination of everything, but it is outrageous that we let this situation develop by only offering him new terms this year. This should have been sorted 12 months ago.

I use both, and he's fantastic.

He'll be fantastic for another team now, so be it.

Then you have obviously seen something the rest of the footballing world hasn't if you think he will be automatically fantastic.

I go off recent form too, half a decent season in the last one, that's essentially it.

We wont know the details of the contract, ever.

We do know he's an Evertonian and we do know this manager has chosen to make him an issue above all other players. After one season of that RB - having been at the club since a child - has decided to leave.

I dont think it's down to cash at all. It's down to an environment to play in.

Then again, we'll never know, because Barkley has kept his own counsel and not played it all out in public...unlike other parties.
