Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

Apparently a deal with Everton was all done and dusted for the Ivory Coast international striker, in fact he was expected to have signed on the dotted line at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

But an 11th hour bid from Newcastle has pipped Everton's £5m offer.

Reports in the North East say that the Geordies have been given permission to speak to the player by the Latics after agreeing a fee.

Laughably bad journalism. He has a release clause of £5m, so why would Newcastle bid £5.5m?

Ridiculous.

if he goes to Newcastle then this is typical of Everton as another class player goes elsewhere, but if he does come to us then its typical of Everton with another average player signed while class players go elsewhere.

I feel that Kone might offer us something and one of those things would be to help Jelavic score.
As said they both have the same record (one in three) in the Prem, there's a good chance of Jelavic getting back in form while Kone looks like he can't improve his goal scoring ratio but can bring other aspects to our game. I would like him to be the player that moves Fellaini back to where he should be.

I think Moyes played Jelavic wrong last season and that he's still our best bet for a 20 goals a season striker, better than say getting Bony who like most forwards would be nearer the one in three than the coveted one in two.

I am wondering if we will be looking to buy someone who can play alongside Mirallas as one of reasons for Jela's dips did seem to be a lack of connection on the pitch with him. Would hope all three blend perfectly but probably clicking with Mirallas a priority

he is the worst journalist on the planet to be honest. his speciality is to announce wild rumours as fact

are we really that skint that we cant afford £5M fcuking quid FFS!

Started getting worried last night when it still wasnt announced tbh. 36 hours after 'within the next 24' hours and all that bollocks!

We really are a shambles of a club when it comes to signing players. Yesterday afternoon Liverpool announced accepting an offer from Swansea, teatime Swansea announced officially signing him!

Why does it take us a week to sign a ****ing player?

This. I'm really pretty hopeful we will see jela back to his best under RM and I think the signing of kone will only help this

Alcaraz and Kone have been 'expected to sign' for about 3 weeks! Suppose it doesn't really matter as long as they sign eventually but you do have to wonder what takes us so long sometimes when it seems to be a done deal

I think Newcastle have matched us and may havd offered more upfront. Coyle even said he had a few offers in for him.

Don't want him, not the type of signing I have any interest in and a total waste of money for a club in our position.
.
I'd rather we took a step back and rebuilt than make short term average signings.

See this worries me and tbh its why BK has stayed in power for so long.

Whether you want him or not is totally irrelevant. Fact is RM wanted him and our financial position may see him move to NUFC?

And just cos you dont want him you dont see how fundamentally ****ed we are as a football club? Norwich and Palace have the ability to outspend us? How the **** is that possible? And not totally devastating?

Newcastle have been given permission to speak to Wigan striker Arouna Kone, according to the Press Association.

It is reported they may have to battle it out with Everton, with former Latics boss Roberto Martinez keen to take him to Goodison Park.

It is claimed the 29-year-old has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the DW Stadium in the wake of Wigan's relegation from the Premier League.

ive heard Everton have offered just under the release clause and are still wrangling over payments.

After I read your first sentence I tought you ment that its typical of Everton to loose a class player, and I was going to reply that you and 90% others who were saying he is not good enough would complain if he went to someone else.. however after reading your last part I found that you were thinking the same thing as me.. too many hypocrites in here

How embarrassing if we don't sign him now. Not that Im really that arsed about him, its just a bit of a joke how long it takes us to sort out deals. First thing I heard about Shelvey going Swansea was when the deal was done for example. With us it takes weeks, and then sometimes falls through i.e Fer.

From his interview with The Guardian last season.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/nov/23/arouna-kone-wigan-athletic

"While on loan to Levante he actually managed to score too often, reaching 15 in no time then slowing down in order not to trigger a clause in his contract that would have brought about an unwanted return to Sevilla on reaching 18."

Jelavic is doing the same thing, while Anichebe has spent his career avoiding the back of the net on a regular basis.
