Bob Elstone

Player Valuation: £35m
Listening to the View from the Bullens podcast with Racliffe earlier. He makes a good point amongst many others, where is the talented youth players coming through? What on earth is unsworth and co bringing through?

doesn’t seem to be any real talent breaking into the first team.

United, Liverpool and mostly City poach a lot of the good ones early doors. The ones that make it are then mismanaged with too much emphasis on the PL2 team before being sent out on loan way too late in their developmental stage and the loan will be an absolute car crash to boot.

Unsworth sacrificed future, for PL2 trophies for me.

With the nicest of respects to some of the lads who are in the U23, Pennington, Broadhead, Charsley (for about 4 years) and the rest, were all kept around for a while an given deals, and just stunted the progression, of any youth. Baxter was re-signed ffs!

Anyone half decent send them out on loan and pay 65k for a CF we have not used..... Josh King....... while Rhico has stunk the gaff out......- Eliss Simms could not have fared worse ....... + we missed out anyway on Europe....

Far too much sentiment around FC Cosy of Walton.

The academy needs to be ruthless.

The coaches should have a very good idea by 16 (17 in exceptional cases) who has the ability and more importantly the attitude to succeed as an elite professional.

By 18 the best ones need to be either training with the 1st team OR out on loan playing competitive football in meaningful matches. The U23 league is a joke.

The coaches need to produce at a minimum 15 to 25m worth of talent each season, either promoted to 1st team or sold on.

Our issue is our 1st team squad is such a mish mash of overpriced players brought in by 4 different managers it's almost impossible to integrate the youngsters giving them a fair chance.

The first team should have a stable formation (or two) with a core of 17/18 first team outfield players supplemented by home grown academy. The academy graduates can come in and gain experience knowing EXACTLY what is expected of them, and also what their teammates are going to do. They will make mistakes, but as Wenger said "You pay for your young players with points." He's exactly right, but there is no other way.

Those who moan about Brands not doing a good job seem to focus purely on the first team. A DoF cannot be judged before he has completed 5 or 6 years at the club. (Provided of course he has carte blanche to hire and fire as he sees fit...... I'm not convinced he has that.)

Just shows that success and trophies at U18 and U23 doesn`t transfer to our 1st team for whatever reason.... Our academy is successful but doesn`t produce 1st team players. That is a worry....

This has to be looked at properly. Who has actually broken through in the last 10 years? Apart from DCL and Davies the rest have disappeared to the lower leagues. Awful development and recruitment. All the best local talent have been scouted by the RS it seems.

Its hard finding the players to step up to the required level when you have City Utd RS and Chelsea hoovering them all up first

The u23s should largely be players 19 or maybe 20 and younger. Anyone older than that should be playing real football somewhere.

Agreed.
I feel like you’re going to know around 17-18 if your player has that potential, and you’ve got w couple of years to nurture it.

From memory, the only player we’ve had establish themselves in our squad who didn’t make their debuts until 21/22 was Osman.

Just let them make a career elsewhere.

Youth? academy? FFS its 2021 teams sigm players from abroad rather than giving kids a chance. Before we had money we utilised the younger players, nowdays its fill the bench with rubbish overpaid players from overseas
