Last Film You Watched

IO
Really gentle film, lovely...think of it with an I am legend, end of days vibe but slower and more deliberate. Great cast, No action to speak of but just great acting.
I really love an end of days flick me
8/10

You should do, it's perfection. I think about it nearly every day. I read something about Coops becoming a corporate yes worker and it all made sense
I think it'll take a bit more than that to explain it to me lol but it is great viewing, made me want to rewatch the first two series again so I am fully up to speed...actually any excuse to watch them again really. That and Sopranos ..oh and better call saul....best tv ever....
Can I ask why in the hell am I posting this on the film thread ?? Sorry everyone for derailing it. I will shhhhh now

What an incredible piece of cinema.

Island of the Hungry Ghosts

It's nice of Australia to put a secret refugee camp on Christmas Island and not let people leave. Then trying to push through a law stating that people working in immigration sector cannot publicly complain about the conditions.

Fifth Element is one of those that looks like I'd enjoy it but I've just never got round to watching. Now you've mentioned mid/late 90's era Willis I want to rewatch Twelve Monkeys.
we rewatched 12 Monkeys about two years ago...another belter! also the underrated Deep Impact from 1998 is great: good science, fantastic fx and believable drama.

Love 12 Monkeys. There's a recent tv series as well which is pretty good imo.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Didn't really enjoy it and found it to be really cheesy/cringe for the most part. I rate Malek a lot as an actor but this film just did my head in. It should have been x-rated based on Mercurys past but instead it was all watered down to an almost family friendly PG style feel good film. All the mad stories about his partying ignored, only one reference to drugs in the entire film (a quick shot of some white powder on a table). It was exactly what I feared after hearing Sacha Baron Cohen talk about how Queen wouldn't let him tell the true story. Bland. 5/10

IO - Had a feeling it would be bad but watched it anyway, should have read the train-wreck reviews... bad acting, bad script, bad film. 4/10

Roma - Already posted about this a month or so ago in another thread, best film of the year by a mile for me... worth watching if only for the glorious cinematography. 10/10

Vice - Solid and enoyable film, similar in vibe to the Big Short but not as good. 7.5/10

Nothing I can disagree with there. A lot of artistic license is taken and there's definitely a different film that could have been made. It could be viewed to take an almost cowardly or disapproving approach to the issues of drugs and homosexuality but there's also an argument that one of the themes of the film is the societal disapproval of such things, the invasion of privacy and the devastating effects of that on FM and those close to him rather than a sensationalist X-rated telling of all that went on.

It definitely seems to struggle for a cohesive tone and what story it's telling and as a result falls between two stools. Not surprising given it's production history with not only the lead walking out but also a change of director during the shoot. But for all that I still enjoyed it a bit more than I thought I would. I think the overall performances of the cast and some fun scenes elevate it to around a 6 or a generous 7.

Just watched The Wrong Man, great Hitchcock this and as far as I know his only one that was a true story?
About a guy wrongly acussed of being a hold up man. Great cast with Henry Fonda and Vera Miles and score from Bernard Herrmann. If you like the old black and white noir stuff highly recommend this one.

Bird Box on Netflix

Interesting concept, undermined by the fact there is absolutely no story or ending. Two hours of sitting through an 'end of the world' mystery, culminating in a total non-ending. If anyone has ever seen 'The Happening' (one of the worst movies ever made), then Bird Box is basically a more competent version of that, but without any kind of conclusion at all.

Pointless.

Sandra Bullock is a fine woman though, so that's a positive.

Sandra Bullock is very good in it and is getting more attractive as she gets older though ?

Hell yeah!

Although she was crazy-fit in 'A Time to Kill' in 1996.
