Sandra Bullock's face, tho'...

And she's 54 years old playing a young pregnant woman. That and her face just kept pulling me out of the story.

The House That Jack Built

Have to say I really enjoyed this one. Thankfully, it's not nearly as graphic as I feared (or the walkouts at Cannes led me to believe). There's a lot of humour in there, and it was interesting to see Lars von Trier raking over the coals of his own output. Matt Dillon is very good in it - how come he never really got that second wind in his career after There's Something About Mary? And Bruno Ganz (Downfall) is great too, although you hear him more than you see him throughout the course of the film. Von Trier is able to toy with the audience as per usual, and presents us with an array of characters which range from extremely grating (Uma Thurman) to highly sympathetic (Riley Keough). The expected pretentious moments aside, I'd cautiously recommend this one; definitely one of the better films I've seen in a while.
