Last Film You Watched

aye, i watched it a couple of times in the 90's, then again on our home-projector with surround speakers last year or so...the film is even better than i remembered, and its weakest part, the flat Keanu Reeves, wasn't as bad as i remember either. Incredible scene at the end. We only have the DVD too, let us know how it looks in ultra-HD!.
Will do, mate. It's always quite interesting so see how some of the older films fare in UHD.

Cost 20 mil to make, made around 60 mil globally.

From the stuff I`ve read, it was Carpenters last proper big earner and the studios lost faith in him after a load of flops.
Only really knew Carpenter for his horror films and that type seemed to really drop out of favour for a while

Watched Green Book last night. Hardly world beating but enjoyable all the same. Viggo Mortensen is very good. Driving Miss Daisy with role reversal, ie white chauffeur with a black passenger, rather than black chauffeur with a white passenger.

The Favourite. Decent and always watchable, but still overrated. Kind of has one joke: let's all hear the royals/nobility using inappropriate language, and it will probably shock audiences thinking they've settled in for your usual period drama. Reminds me of the sort of film Peter Greenaway used to make in the 80s & 90s. I like most of Lanthimos' films dating back to Dogtooth, but found this one to be a bit unmemorable (unlike his previous one, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which was quite haunting and stayed with me for a while after). Stone and Weisz are both really good, Colman her usual self, and all told it's exactly the type of thing Oscar loves.

Was hoping to catch that as I enjoyed The Lobster and was interested to see what Lanthimos did here but it's just dropped off at my local Cine. Missed loads lately as there always seems to be something needs doing on my day off work.

Deffo going watching Stan & Ollie tomorrow though. Everyone can do one if anything needs doing, phones getting turned off lol

You should enjoy Stan & Ollie, & I imagine The Favourite will be back in cinemas again around Oscar time...

Went to see this last night ;

Destroyer.

A barely recognisable Nicole Kidman plays a bent, burnt out, alcoholic Detective blazing a trail of revenge.

The film starts with the end at the beginning and works its way to the initial incident that kicked everything off.

Nice little twist at the end of the film too.

It’s a very good film and Kidman will probably win awards, but it’s very slow and requires full attention.

Went watching Stan & Ollie this afternoon. All the ingredients are perfect from performances, sets, costume and direction but the overall story just felt a little lacklustre. Obviously it's rooted in actual events and there's only so much wriggle room but I can't help but feel there's a better story or part of their career to be given the big screen treatment, especially given the personal and professional drama of their Hal Roach years.

All said though it flew over and the longer it went on the more I enjoyed it. Nothing much is happening but you enjoy being with the characters and the warmth of their interactions. It does shift up a gear when the wives arrive and they're both played excellently as well as the smarmy promoter.

anyone seen can you ever forgive me yet? thoughts?
Not seen this yet but sincerely hoping it's still showing locally when I get back from holidays. Looks great.

Glad you enjoyed it, mate. It is a slow burner, but very rewarding. Seems odd Kidman's not up for an Oscar for it.
