Rebel Moon - utterly awful! Every cliche in the book, piss poor dialogue, just soooo bad I actually enjoyed it. Me and my wife laughing at its stupidness.
Just watched this myself.
A pretty obvious pastiche of every Sci Fi movie going from the obvious Star Wars to a bit of the Matrix at the end, with Avatar, Alita and Chappie / Kill Command thrown in for good measure. Combined with Zack Snyders usual penchant for colourisation, bit of slo mo and graphic arm breaks.
Liked 300 & Watchmen but this is much more from his DC cinematic universe efforts.
Will probably watch the sequel but like the zombie ones he did not really that bothered if I don’t.

It just feels like extremely poor acting, writing, dialogue and action scenes hiding behind some OK CGI and set building. It feels like we are going further down the Marvel/DC 'everything all the time but no real quality' mantra. It is the dumbing down of cinema

News Of The World

Confederate Captain Tom Hanks travels through various parts of tension filled Texas in the aftermath of the Civil War as he attempts to return a girl adopted by the Kiowa to her original familial roots.

Really very well made with Paul Greengrass at the helm and can obviously rely on Hanks to do the heavy lifting throughout. A touch slow paced and a few too many lingering shots of Hanks being all still and concerned/pained as it nudges you in the ribs and tells you how prestigious it all is alongside a couple of 2D Southern 'baddies for the sake of being baddies' who could have done with being fleshed out a little.

But it zips along nicely for an often slow film and does a good job of ramping up tension when needed. Looks fantastic as well in parts.

Recorded The Great Escape this afternoon as I was out for a bit and just watched it back again, excellent film it is, although Id forgotten it was 3 1/2hrs long!

….every time I hear that film mentioned I just think of the big German officer looking back as Steve McQueen starts bouncing his baseball against the cell wall. No idea who that actor was but a classic little scene from a classic film.

Watched Godfather last night for the first time in years. Forgotten just how good it was and am now set up for pt2 tonight.

Pacino being so withdrawn and understated is just a masterclass.
A poem, on success regardless of cost, incredible sad, but devout. Pacino immaculate. I love Casablanca, I do, this one isn't so straight forward.

Deserved every Oscar it got. Just wow.
