Last Film You Watched

Terminator Dark Fate.

Arnie was good.

Everything else absolutely awful.

Why the need to push the new John Connor as a feminist 'you don't need to give birth to the saviour because you are the future' trope?

The original storyline where Sarah Connor evolves understanding the future of the life she holds inside her was far more powerful and relatable than the completely virtue signposting ballbag of a film I just sat through.

And why is the new terminator discussing things prior to a final battle? It's a cyborg, it just wants to kill as it's mission objective.

No Terminator fan wanted this.

Wasn’t the original story set in liverpool
Sort of.
Candyman is based on the short story 'The Forbidden' by Clive Barker, which is part of one of his 'Books of Blood' series.
Barker (Who also wrote The Hellbound Heart & Cabal, which were adapted as Hellraiser and Nightbreed respectively) is a scouser and has loads of references to Liverpool in his books.
The book is set in Liverpool, but the film is very different.

He’s from Allerton / Calderstones area and went to the old Quarry Bank school.

Think he still has family around there.

One of my lads went to his old school.

Watched this recently. An incredibly bizarre film, yet I genuinely enjoyed it.
The atmosphere, the cinematography, soundtrack & casting are all on point. It's a really creepy and claustrophobic movie.

It follows Richie, a puppeteer, who returns to his childhood home to try and get rid of this creepy puppet he calls 'Mr. Possum', which is basically a mannequin head with spider legs. No matter how he tries to dispose of it (dumping in a river, burying, burning) it turns up in his room the next day.
This is set around a secondary plot about a missing teenager whom Richie was the last person to speak to.

One of Sean Harris best films ( imo ) He’s terrific in the lead, with a real jaw dropper of an ending.

An uncomfortable watch a times though.

It’s not a mainstream film though and one that’s destined to go under the radar.

i watched gladiator last week and gladiator 2 today

both very good films but the original gladiator is just a classic

I really liked Phoenix as Commodus, it was apparently his first big film role and he was apparently extremely nervous when he saw the size of the set

i think i read somewhere that Ridley really wanted to have a rhino in the coliseum in Gladiator but it was very tricky to do back in 2000 because CGI was not as advanced so he at least got to live out that dream in gladiator 2.

there was a lot of mirroring between the two films in terms of the plot

last person i thought i would see in gladiator 2 was matt lucas but he did his role well, same as omid djallili in gladiator

i'd give original gladiator a 7.5/10 and gladiator 2 a 7/10

pascal and mescal look kinda similar that they could actually play father and son in a film

Would you say the original untampered versions ought to be offered as a choice to watch? I can't stand what they've done altering the originals after the fact. It's like sewing a few extra patches onto the Bayeux tapestry.
I only really watch the 3 originals. I have seen some of the others but I’m a traditionalist and wouldn’t be interested in watching them again.

The Substance.

Been saving this one, but holy moly I wasn’t expecting it to be as off the scale as it was 😲

Demi Moore was outstanding, as was the tango tanned Dennis Quaid, going full on Nic Cage as the TV executive.

Some truly uncomfortable stuff in this, as it portrays the brutal way the tv / film industry discards older stars.

A massive nod to the Elephant Man in the insane last act.

Recommended, but not for the faint hearted.
