Linesmen flag low pay

Player Valuation 2/6d
A premiership referee earns in the region of £70 – 90k a year, paid as salary plus a match fee.
Fair salary?

They make the decisions that may decide who qualifies for the champions league and who gets relegated, resulting in a big financial impact on the clubs involved. 10’s of millions

A premiership linesman for 2007/2008 earned £300.00 per match with no annual salary. (A large difference in earnings)
Fair payment?

The Linesman obviously has a say in important decisions and takes the verbal abuse along with the bad press.
Last August they asked for “MORE” they wanted a retainer salary of £5k plus an increased match fee (not sure how many games they average a year?) Read this.......

Premier League: Linesmen flag low pay as a major concern to leave
bitter dispute looming over new season | Football | The Guardian

Result, a new match fee of £350.00 with no retainer salary.
There’s a lot of money in the game, can’t understand the FA /PGMO attitude.
(Bet the pen pushers in the magic circle at Soho Square make a comfortable living)

Referees get paid too much for not doing a great job. The reason the salary is so high is because of what the job entails, and that is a whole load of hassle. Linesmen (Assistant Referees), get £300 per game for running up and down a line for 90 minutes, sounds like a good wage too me. Most of us work our balls/woman things off to avoid arguments for less than £300 a week. If they done a good job, they should be paid no more than £200 and that should be salary capped. I have always believed players and officials alike should be payed on performance related terms, Clattenburg and Collina should have never been paid for their last involvement in Everton games.

Hi Steevie. Knew I was sticking my neck out with this thread, a lot of hate and rage around regarding officials. :D:D

The linesman would argue that a typical match takes up most of their day, travelling, pre match etc, a rate of £38 ph.
It would make more sense to take a few bob way from the high earning administrators locked away at the FA H.Q and pass it on to the linesman; at least they front the public.

The response to their pay review was not a great advertisement for encouraging new and better match official’s
