But we do know? He's a steady Championship level player and has been a good signing for Brentford and now for QPR.

Sometimes we let youth players go and we are wrong (e.g. Baines). Sometimes, as with Bidwell, Ryan Ledson, JP Kissock, John Irving and Paddy Boyle, we are 100% correct.
Paddy Boyle! I'd forgotten all about him. Remember seeing him in a pre-season game and thinking he looked like a genuine prospect. That's why i'm not a football manager clearly.

He should have been given a run in the first team. This club is a joke.

Always felt it was an attitude / personality issue with him. Looked decent when played but manager after manager looked to loan him out, and no club then tried to buy him after loan.

Reckon he’s a wrong ‘un.

Why has he been kept on the books for so long just to be loaned out every season or dumped into the reserves ?

..he’d virtually run his old contract down, his stock was high and he could’ve gone on a lucrative Bosman. I was amazed when he signed a new contract. Baines was ahead of him and unlikely to be shifted. I said at the time if I was advising him he would’ve gone.

It almost showed a lack of ambition when he signed. Perhaps it’s an insight into his character.

But he keeps going on loan so obviously wants to play, why doesn't he just sign with another team instead of running down his contract here or is it simply his weekly wage with us is way more than he'll ever get offered in league 1 or the championship ?

...exactly, he’ll be a very wealthy young man. You can’t blame the lad for not taking a massive cut in wages. The whole situation is just one of those things.

He's not good enough.
I've quoted this before but this tells you everything you need to know. He needed phoning by an Everton coach when on loan at Fulham to get important advice...that he should stop crosses and defend the back post. If you're a full back and need to be told that there's really not much down for you...

Nah can't blame him if we were stupid enough to offer stupid high wages and a long contract (not the first we're guilty of this), can't have many years left though on it ?

..to be fair, on this one I wouldn’t blame the club. Garbutt’s stock was very high at the time, it was an obvious case of protecting you asset. It really is just one of those things.
