Just before anyone thinks I'm out for him I will say I have been pleased so far with what he's done just this lack of a centre back signing is a huge success factor for both our season and his performance in building this squad into a force.

Mate this is like the Lukaku replacement arguments all over again.

Nobody is advocating simply signing anyone. We are criticizing the staff we have for failing to bring in the proper signing as they have been tasked to do so. Regardless of the reasons for the failure it is still a failure not to have this taken care of by now and we should all be acknowledging that.

Not properly before this last week of the window and even then the links aren't anywhere near as strong as the Mina reports.

It's clear we're going to disagree on the timescale here. But isn't it possible there just aren't that many centrebacks available of the requisite quality and at an affordable price? Asking for a friend here....

How do you know all of this? As I pointed out we made enquiries for Mina before the World Cup. We heard of it after the England v Colombia game in the press.

Who do you think we’ve enquirer about? You must have a definitive list

It's just more excuses.

Brands was brought in to deliver. That's why we paid PSV top money.

So far he's having mixed results and whatever the reasons for it has failed to bring in a centre back with time for them to play a part in preseason.

I'm going off of the papers. We had some minor links to Lascelles earlier in the window but nothing about any bid or agreement with Newcastle and then Rojo came out of nowhere last week as soon as the talk was we were being priced out of the Mina deal.

But you literally just said it was a joint process between Brands and Silva.

So why is this all being laid at Brands feet if recruitment is a joint process?

So if there actually are no available centrebacks for the right price, it's just an excuse? Jake, you're having a mare here; must be the weather in Ottawa.
