What i mean is initially there was a clear sign we looked better, his first season was ace, ok it didn't work out.
The previous 4 managers have picked up a struggling side and had early burst, gave us something to optimistic about.
Moyes, Martinez, Koeman and yes Fat Sam all got off to a start that was better then what we seen before them.
Silva is the only one from the last 5 managers who has come in but failed to make an improvement

You don’t think things are significantly better now than they were under Allardyce?! Madness.

The short-termism mixed with desperation of football fans never ceases to amaze me. I thought Sunderland fans took the gold medal but after reading this thread I think we’re up there.

What damage exactly is that? Because only 2 of the starting 11 yesterday where signed when he was in charge ( and they both have had solid seasons)

How long we gonna continue to blame koeman and fat Sam for the job Silva is doing?

He's assembled a good squad and he's not getting the best from them and that's down to Silva

2 of the 11 yes but that means we have a whole host of new players learning the league, the club, the language etc. every season.

So you're expecting a Silva to fix everything in 6 months? Implement a dozen new players, get rid of double the amount of players, and set about a new system and way of playing?

You're talking about a clean slate and rebuild. That doesn't happen in 6 months.

The bloke was a disgrace, a fraudster of the highest order - but don’t allow Silva off the hook because of his mismanagement - he’s been well backed in the summer and the present points return is abysmal.

I'm not. But Silva has a clearer picture and idea than the Dutch Moon head did when he spunked £300million setting us back 2 years.

I'm willing to give him longer than 1 season.

Moyes replacing Smith, things got better right away
Martinez replacing Moyes, things got better,, much better.
Koeman replaced Martinez, things did look better and there was improvement.
Fat head Sam replaced Koeman, and he steadied us and we looked better and harder to beat.
Silva replaced Fat Head and we have gone backwards. And with massive investment.....

Selective that.

Martinez took over a steady ship, had a phenomenal season, and then slid backwards with some dreadful recruitment, poor results and clear signs he'd lost the dressing room and the plot.
Koeman took over and got things back on course, and then slid backwards with some dreadful results and utterly dreadful recruitment. Another who had clearly entered a spiral and wasn't turning things around.
BFS took over and steadied the ship, and then produced some of the worst football in living memory and poor results.

Silva replaced BFS and initially shown signs of progress but also some poor results in recent weeks. I don't see that he's in a spiral though and to not give him time to have a decent crack at the job would be kneejerking to the extreme.

Silva isn't exempt from criticism although it has to be managed and balanced. We're improving in many ways, but yes there's areas that he must clearly improve.

Nevertheless, it doesn't mean we should ignore the damage inflicted by previous managers especially with the fact we were overloaded with overpriced dross.

Not really mate no. Definitely not if points on the board mean anything to you .

The football's way better. BFS was looking to frustrate the opponent, take the draw and stealing any wins was seen as an unexpected bonus and was entirely based on a short term plan to boost his bank balance and protect his reputation in the media all while perpetuating the myth that we were in severe relegation trouble.

Silva is looking to win games and there is a longer term plan to build something sustainable. Won some, drew some and lost some - often unluckily.

But that's always been the argument as to why we sacked Big Sam.

You either want points on the board and don't care how we play (which seemed to be a problem for a lot last season) or accept there's a bigger change happening that will take time

Big point there.

We spent £300mill under Koeman and looked like relegation candidates which forced us to panic and bring in Big Sam.

There's nothing like that this term despite having the same points.

Make the full case for it then! Is it just about points? If so, I’m assuming you were happy with the football, the style, the entertainment, the transfer strategy, the lack of team spirit, the disconnect between fans and players, the apathy of the fans at every match, the simple fact that we had *Sam Allardyce* managing the club(!)?

Points matter of course. But I’m not so short-sighted that it’s all I’m bothered about. We are in the process of changing our style and identity, changing the structure off the pitch, as well as dealing with the disaster of the Walsh/Koeman/Allardyce era. The chance of doing that in 20 games with no blips is close to zero.

I think the performances have deserved more, probably to the tune of 7-10 points, but it’s our own fault generally. Small lapses of concentration etc. So I’m not saying we’ve been unlucky.

The big thing is this: we are on the right track both on and off the pitch. That’s all I ever want.
