Jumping the gun ever so slightly here, Dave - it's all just paper talk at the moment and I'm sure Spanish journos are every bit as bone idle and partial to a bit of 'cut and paste' as our lot. It's probably based on that interview Valdano gave when he suggested that Roberto would be more amenable to the giant egos in the Real dressing room than a disciplinarian like Conte would - he's definitely correct as well!

However, If he is offered the job he would be a fool to turn it down, and a fool is one thing Roberto certainly isn't, at least where his own career is concerned. They might have a few over-the-hill players but they are way better than their recent results so any new manager would almost certainly bring about a short-term improvement and then, if they choose to look elsewhere, could walk away with head held high and 'former Real Madrid manager' on their CV. And the money (and pay off) will no doubt be good.

It's tailor made for a short term manager and I'll bet the Great Firefighter himself, Samuel Allardicci, is busy right now in his luxury villa brushing up on his Spanish: "Ramos, traeme un pastel y la salsa!"
Phenomenal, you are clearly in a good moment of posting.

He’s not getting it though is he.
Stranger things have happened - clubs like Real sometimes just need a warm body. Moyes took a step up in the global football hierarchy after resigning his post here, but it's been a tailspin for Roberto ever since he was fired from the Goodison dugout and chased down Gwladys St by an angry mob. He was given the cold shoulder by Hull, and had to rehabilitate his reputation in the wilderness of international football, going head to head with giants of the game like Gareth Southgate. Would be quite the reversal if he climbed back into serious club management, even a sinecure like the current Real job would be very impressive.

As good a surrender speech as there is this.

Accepted.

I hope he gets the Madrid job

If he balls' that up or succeeds we'll have a definitive answer on his abilities as a club manager
I disagree. The Madrid job is no test of a manager's abilities, other than to demonstrate they can herd cats.

A better test of ability would be to turn a club like Napoli into champions or make Seville or Monchengladbach into a top two team.

Love it. Rather than talk about his ability to take Belgium to the WC semi final when under the previous manager they were tosh, let's say something as ridiculous as this.

I guarantee if he gets the real job and does well, folk in here will revisit the "it's la liga, two club year, you can't fail" argument.
