Player Valuation: £60m
Former England boss Steve McClaren has been appointed as the new manager of Eredivisie outfit FC Twente on a two-year deal.

The ex-Middlesbrough boss was sacked by the Football Association in November after failing to guide the national side to the Euro 2008 finals.

McClaren was interviewed for the managerial vacancy at Blackburn Rovers in the past few days, but has now elected to take up the role in Holland.

He told Sky Sports News: "I have this morning accepted a two-year contract to become the new manager of FC Twente in Holland.

"This is an exciting new phase of my managerial career and I can't wait to take up the challenge.

"From the moment I met the club president Mr (Joop) Munsterman and his staff, I knew this was the right club for me.

"My assistant will be Erik ten Hag and I'm very much looking forward to working with him and the players.

"Last season was very exciting for the club having qualified for the third round qualifiers for this season's Champions League.

"It's great to be back in management and I'm relishing the opportunity and challenge that lies ahead."

Have they ever seen him manage? think this might go tits up for them. Plus Twente are in the champions league next year.

Former Bolton and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has withdrawn from race to succeed Mark Hughes at Blackburn Rovers.

Allardyce had been in the running to land the Ewood Park job along with the likes of Paul Ince, Michael Laudrup and Steve McClaren.

McClaren has now been appointed manager of Eredivisie side FC Twente, while Laudrup has met with Rovers chairman John Williams.

MK Dons boss Ince remains in pole position despite not holding the necessary qualifications to coach in the Premier League.

Ince's case has now been strengthened further with the news that Allardyce has pulled out of the running, leaving it as an apparent two-horse race for the post.

Allardyce, who had a successful eight-spell at the Reebok Stadium with Rovers' bitter rivals, has been out of work since January after being sacked by Newcastle following just under eight months in charge.

Not really suprised by this.......would you want him in charge?

i'd want him on a charge never mind in charge, he can take his brolly and feck off there for me, thus eliminating any chance of him being linked with any coaching roles at our place, unless of course there's a chance of him going to the [Poor language removed] instead.

Good to see one of our coaches trying their luck abroad. More should do it (as well as players) rather than complaining that top clubs here never give them a chance.

He had a reasonable pedigree pre-England, getting to the final of the UEFA and assistant at Man Utd. Sven was roundly derided as England boss but few had anything but good to say about his first season at City, where he finished mid-table despite spending millions.

I have no real affection towards McClaren but for the good of English football this sort of thing needs to happen more often, so I wish him luck. Maybe then we'll be able to choose an Englishman to manage the national team.

I don't know if McClaren is the guy to take the reputation of British managers abroad to the next level, Bruce. He was pitiful at England and it's because of him that I'm missing watching England in Euro 08. Say what you like about Sven, at least he got England to their natural level (quarter finalists and in a damned competition).

I don't think it's a case of representing English managers abroad. Whenever the England job comes up all the Englishmen moan about not getting a chance to manage in the CL etc. Well McClaren is and he's doing it by trying his luck abroad. Good luck to him. We need more to follow suit and learn a different culture, both players and coaches, if we're to get to the top as a nation. Sadly too many settle for the easy life in the PL reserves/lower reaches.

Good post Bruce. Nice one mate. I agree.
