well, now they have had all their points taken away and ferrari are all but constructors champs.

hamilton and alonso to slug it out for number one....

Naughty Mclaren, found guilty and punished harshly, I'm guessing the FIA thought it not to be fair to also take away drivers points, but what about the other drivers who have received less points because half mclaren half ferrari cars were on the track?

I always said, where did mclaren get the pace AND the reliability all of a sudden?

Now we know.

They had the pace. Reliability came. The documents are said to be more to the running of the car rather than the construction.

Too much of a coincidence IMO, yes they had the pace but ever since hakkinen left they haven't been able to keep the car on the track for 2 races in a row.

and now, all of a sudden they have this perfect reliability record?

Yes what they got caught with was nothing engine wise, but thats only what they got caught with ;)

The new evidence is supposedly emails and text message detailing car setups. That has nothing to do with reliability. Reliablity issues haven't even been mentioned by anybody. I think you are going down a dead-end here.

I think they should cast their scrutinising eye onto Ferrari themselves, they aren't as saint like as they make out. The WMSC has several Ferrari board members sitting on it.

just saying it as I see it, caught with their hands in the ferrari toolbox, maybe it was the first time maybe not?

Of course Ferrari are saints (saints that haven't been caught yet! :D)

Two legends slam the ruling

Stirling Moss:

And Moss, who won 16 grands prix between 1955 and 1961, added: "Obviously something should be done to the two guys in particular (Coughlan and Stepney).

"The damage they have done to the whole thing is unbelievable - but I'm not convinced McLaren were much enhanced by what they got.

"It's awful for the public, we are seeing the best racing we've seen for years."

As for Hamilton and Alonso - separated by just three points with four races to go, Moss added: "Lewis and Fernando are stunning drivers.

"I don't know what the devil I would do if I were them.

"It's not happened before and I hope it doesn't happen again.

I agree with him.

Jackie Stewart:

The Scot, who competed in Formula One between 1965 and 1973 and was World Champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973, said: "Even if they were found guilty of the crime it does not justify this type of penalty."

The £49.2million will go to the World Motor Sport Council.

And Stewart added: "McLaren are not a poor company - but you have to ask where the money goes."

"Does it go to the governing body? Have they just gained by a 100 million dollars - or does it go to charity?

Where is the money going? I think the Ferrari board and Mr.Mosley are going to pocket it (they essentially are the WMSC).

*Walks into Ferrari boardroom* Wow, nice espresso machine, how much did that bad boy cost?

Luca de Montezemelomomomomomo: "Uhh, about $100 million actually. Nice isn't it" *smiles*

 :P

In particular, McLaren was charged with the unauthorised possession of one or more of the following technical documents that could be used for one or more of the following purposes: designing, engineering, building, checking, testing, developing and running a 2007 Ferrari Formula One car, including drawings, lay-out and digital mock-up schemes, technical documents and reports and procedures relating, amongst other things, to weight distribution, aerodynamics, component designs, suspension, gearbox, hydraulic, water, oil and fuel system designs, assembly and building technology designs

Interesting.
