McLeish to be new Birmingham boss

Alex McLeish has resigned as Scotland manager and BBC Sport understands he will take over as Birmingham boss.
Birmingham have called a news conference for Wednesday morning where they are expected to unveil McLeish.
The 48-year-old led Scotland to the brink of Euro 2008 qualification and his deal ran until 2010.
But Blues, who received £3m when Steve Bruce left for Wigan, are believed have agreed a compensation package with the Scottish Football Association.
The SFA were keen to hold on to McLeish and said it had rejected an approach for him.
But, despite reports they would offer McLeish an improved deal, the lure of the English top-flight has proved to great for the former Rangers, Hibernian and Motherwell boss.
A hint that Blues had got their man came when caretaker assistant Eric Black quit on Tuesday to join Bruce at Wigan.
McLeish previously had not ruled out a return to club football.
"I am Scotland manager until something else happens," he said recently
He also said he would not guarantee he would still be in charge for the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.
"It's a long time away," he told BBC Sport. "You can never tell in football.
"It's something that is always out of your control. I am Scotland manager until something else happens."

UCHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM YEAH!

:-) Moyes for Scotland!

Only joking Moyes would have to be aff his tits to come manage us. I think he will manage Scotland at some point but not now!

Yeah, strange mix our two nations coaches have had.

One did better than expected and resultantly left

The other did worse than expected and was resultantly sacked.

The lesson we hsould all take from this is aim to be mediocre :-D

Well I think McCleish is an idiot. Why go and manage a club that is never going to achieve anything other than mid table.

Whereas Scotland are very close to qualifying for major tournaments. Surely International football is the pinacle?

Its all [Poor language removed] up.

Agreed, i dont think much of Birmingham! I dont think McLeish is a great manager either. he managed my team (motherwell) for 4 years and nearly got us relegated and sold most of our decent players:

Paul Lambert (to Dortmund), Phil O'donnell (to Celtic), Rab McKinnon (to FC Twente) etc etc, he used the moneyfrom the O'Donnell sale to buy pretty much 1 player - Mitchell Van Der Gaag!

Some of the duds he bought at rangers were a joke, Emerson, Egil Ostenstad, Nuno Capucho!

I thought he would jump at the chance.

Hope they go for alex ferguson, watching united fail would be great.

It's amazing, you go onto BBC 606 Comments page about this and what do you get, Scots and English bickering about who has the best managers! Fecking pathetic.

Anyway it seems Billy Davies is already talking about the job! Although i'd rather he did not.

I prefer Scotland to England mate, mucho. I think McLeish has devalued the Scottish job there as theres no way Brum is a bigger job. Especially the direction that the Tartan Army are heading.

I went to see Motherwell play Aberdeen years ago, sound little ground and people. My cousin lived in Motherwell while he was on Celtics books in the 90s.

Yeah, Motherwell are a strange team, they are the closest (in terms of location) to Rangers (about 15miles) and Celtic (11miles) therefore we do get a few decent young players because we are in the central belt and we can guarentee them they get a chance.

We have produced guys like McFadden, Lee McCulloch, Tom Boyd, Garry McCallister, Brian McClair, (You'll dislike this next one) Ian St John and many others, these are just a few who play/played in the EPL.

It seems Davies might be the new Scotland manager (he started his managerial career at 'Well) replacing McCliesh (he also started his managerial career at 'Well). So all in, we are clearly a producing club!

I think one thing is for sure for both England and Scotland, i would much rather see home born managers in charge of the two teams.

sounds like a stop-gap solution, has their new owner actually taken over yet? mcleish's contract would make good reading, who can he buy and who can he pick, after all thats why bruce left.

Reports from Spain indicate that David Moyes is about to sign a two year contract to manage the Scottish National Team through the 2010 World Cup
Qualifiers.
