Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

An update on my visit to the optician who was very apologetic that my concerns over my new prescription not being suitable hadn’t been addressed. A further test showed that the prism in the lens could be adjusted which along with exercises should alleviate the double vision, it will take a couple of months but I’m hopeful. Thanks for all the good wishes.
That's good news. Fingers crossed that resolves the double vision

If anyone’s interested in the roots of our accent (amongst other things) I can recommend this book. It’s quite “academic“ in parts , not surprisingly as the author is Professor of English at Leeds uni..He’s from the Dingle and a really nice bloke , I went to the launch of another of his books at Waterstones and spoke to him briefly. He describes how “scouser” came in to use in the early ‘60s most people described themselves as Liverpudlian up to then and previously some as Liverpolitans. I think I’ve got quite a soft south-Liverpool accent but I’ve had Americans thinking I’m Irish and two English blokes in Cologne thought I was Irish.
That looks good. I love language and dialects. I'll try and get hold of a copy. Thanks

@Bluetintedspecs how is everything with you? It seems I’m not the only who has been missing from this thread lately and I just wanted to ensure you are okay. X
Very kind of you to ask Sassy. I'm fine thanks, just been really busy.

Got into the Christmas spirit a bit early last month and procrastinated on loads of stuff. Kept telling myself, "I'll do that in the new year," so when the new year arrived I had a massive to do list.

I'm about to watch a bit of telly with my missus, but hope to do a bit of a thread catch up and post more later this week.

Hope everyone's well.

Thanks for asking, lovely ? ?

I've definitely adopted a few North East phrases over the years. " Eeee I was mortal" translates as I had over indulged on alcoholic beverages. Wife or girlfriend is always our lass. My workmates can always tell when I've been to Liverpool. They say the accent is always stronger when I come back. We actually had a Merseyside police interview in one of our referrals that mentioned brasses and beak. I was on hand to translate!
Did they know who the bizzies were anj?

The real test it's going to be if I am able to understand scouser speak once I get there. Now when it comes to agua jabonosa I want to hear you all say that one because I can ;)
Get a copy of this Sassy, you'll be speaking Scouse in no time, it includes all the rude ones?

I'm a table tennis player not tennis .

However here's my tuppence ( can I use that after your lesson) worth.

If the Australian policy is If he you aren't vaccinated you aren't coming in then he should properly be excluded. However they stupidly have exemptions and of he fulfill the definition then he should be let in.

However the Australian immigration minister had the right to.override any decision and deport him.

Given that he was seen mixing , shaking hands and mask less 1 and 2 days after a positive test then clearly he doesn't give a damn and should be deported to send a message.

In this country we reidulouslt say you should wear a mask unless you have a medical exemption which you don't have to have evidence of.

We should have a policy of masks for everyone with no exemption. If you can't wear a mask you shouldn't go out.

Controversial I know , but you asked.
Jazzy, I apologize about my mistake of labeling you a tennis player instead of table tennis player, but as always I appreciate your tuppence. Here is mine, I am tired of privileged people like Djokovic thinking that they can put other people at risk during this pandemic so they can preserve their freedom to choose. If he doesn't want to get vaccinated that's fine but he is not entitled to endangering other people's health like he did in December by showing up to a public event and shaking hands after he had just tested positive. That shows the lack of respect he has for other human well being. So while Australia clearly made a mess out of their vaccination policy by allowing him to enter the country, I agree with you and also think he should be deported and banned to enter Australia for three years, that will certainly hurt his ego as he wont be able to compete in his favorite tournament and the one he does the best.

He is one of my least favourite sportsmen up there with Andy Robertson.

Thing is that if he continues to be unvaccinated it is highly unlikely that he will get into France or USA to play in their Grand Slams.

In fact only this country would be idiotic to welcome him with open arms at Wimbledon.
