I'm not sure that Mick get's the credit he fully deserves, for the contribution he made to our clubs greatest and most successful ever era as a member of Howards backroom team. Mick played out his whole career with Blackburn Rovers, making 171 appearances for them at full back and scoring one goal. Sadly Mick lost his life in a car accident at the age of 48 in April 1995. I think it's time to give an underrated but vital cog in the machinery, that kept our great 80's side ticking over his rightful dues.

Do you have any interesting, happy, or humorous memories of Mike?

If so, please let us know and we will be happy to share them with the world!

Heaton, Mike I worked with Mick in 1994/5 he began as my driver. I was an enforcement officer and he was with me in my work. He was a nice compassionate man and was too nice to do the job I had done for years! I remember the day of his accident, he was on his way to the office for debriefing but he never arrived! A colleague went to look for him, then we got the news he was involved in a road traffic accident from which he never recovered. Such a sad time for everyone who knew him, he was a wonderful compassionate person with a great sense of humour! We will remember him always.

Heaton, Mike Mick was my father in law, on the 11-04-2015 it will be 20 years since he passed away.

Heaton, Mike Mick used to give coaching/training to a sunday league team that I played for; he was friendly, enthusiastic and very patient with those of us who were less than talented. I also played badminton with Mrs Badger and Mrs (Ted ) Helmsley. ( and me a Wednesdayite ... )

Heaton, Mike Hi there. Mick and Len badger used to be old school mates and neighbours. Sad to hear that mick has gone. Is Len still alive? Pete Smith ( from Tinsley Park, Sheffield)

Heaton, Mike I remember waiting for autographs outside the Bellfield Everton training ground.I was doing the typical Scouse thing and asked Mick if he could get me a player shirt.I was 14 at the time.I wasn't allowed into the training ground.True to his word he called me inside and handed me a brown bubble wrap bag with a shirt inside. He asked me previous what number I want.I told him ' any number'.Inside the bag was the famous number 9 shirt.Im 38 now and still keep that shirt as my one of my most keep safe possessions.Live in Australia now DBS was sad to hear Mick passed away.Ill always remember his Geordie accent and good nature. Thanks Mick!True Blue

With the Dublin team in the 70's and 80's you had Kevin Heffernan as manager, and Lorcan Redmond and Donal Colfer as his assistants. Evertons version of that is Howard Kendall, Colin Harvey, and Mick Heaton. Maybe when we move to the new ground they might name something after Mick, or have some sort of award named in his memory.

Thanks for this, Mick was entrusted with working with the full backs, when Colin Harvey was promoted to first team coach. Howard credited Mick with improving the game of Gary Stevens, and I remember Mick was sent to scout in Bavaria prior to the Bayern Munich matches. He did much but I remember he got major credit back in the day for these tasks. I think he was a real Howard man and a massive positive influence.

What i'd love to know is what happened to Mick after he left Everton. I do know however at the time of his sad and tragic death, that he was no longer involved in football.
